It's a shambles - even ignoring the apparent box-ticking.

I think they have lost confidence in Evans and appear to be running around like headless chickens signing everything with a pulse.

My money is on Stephen Hawking as the next signing ...

The re-vamped programme has all the appearance of an omni-shambles-in-waiting. The choice of presenters may be an attempt to increase the interest of those viewers put off by the previous incumbents.
I suppose we'll just have to wait and see...
All those presenters does seem a tad over the top, I must say. But if it earns the Beeb as much money overseas as the previous juvenile load of codswallop did, then it may be money well spent !
It will be car crash television.
What's the box ticking ?
I suppose it's because after a professional racing career lasting 20 years or so, demonstrating her consummate skill at track racing at the Nurburgring, Sabine Schmitz has been picked solely because she's a woman, and for no other legitimate reason. Meanwhile Rory Reid, an up-and-coming motor journalist in various online sites and presenter on Sky Television, has been chosen not for his potential talent but because, entirely relevantly, he is black.

No such talent questions encircle Matt "I can drive a car quite well but it's hardly been the defining point of my career" Leblanc (who is, coincidentally, neither black nor a woman, and is therefore obviously chosen because of his talent and motoring background).
have they got a token public schoolboy in there somewhere to replace Clarkson?
jim360 - thanks for enlightening me :-)
Hmm,
Women are 50% of the population, but the fact that 1 out of 7 of the new presenters is a woman was in order to tick a box. Usual sexist drivel from the usual right wing dinosaurs.
I'll grant baz that the new Top Gear show is certain to be radically different from what it used to be, where, despite their at times fractious sense of humour, the chemistry between Clarkson, Hammond and May (usually) made up for the "old boys making crude jokes about anything and everything" format. I suppose the hope is to water down that side of the show and so appeal to a wider audience. Will it work? Dunno. May as well give it a chance, I guess.
No worries the real deal will be on Amazon. Proper drivel none of the PC inspired drivel. If all public school boys were more Clarkson than Cameron, or the rest of the shower, we would not be in the state we are now. The hand wringers, and virtue signallers, hate him for pricking the pomposity bubble that they immerse themselves in.
Wasn't it also because Clarkson kind of punched a guy who happened to be a producer? I mean they put up with his non-PC humour for almost 15 years. And then he punched someone. Just saying.
Who wouldn't enjoy thumping the occasional BBC producer?
jim

I did like TG years ago - however i went off it in recent years .
I appreciate that it has a lot of followers out there - it would be a boring world , if we all liked the same thing .

As you say - no one knows if the new offering will be a hit with lots of joe's out there .

However going on past experience 'remakes' of popular shows has not been successful.

Lets see if this is an exception

Togo - I don't know any BBC producers, but I certainly don't think they should be punched just because of their job by an arrogant pr*ck !!
Evans has the perfect face ........for radio.
// Sabine Schmitz has been picked solely because she's a woman, and for no other legitimate reason//

Sabine Schmitz was 'picked' by the previous presenters on numerous occasions.

Looks like they may be going for a kind of "zoo" format, familiar to Evans ... could work well.

Virtue signal alert.
Whomever they use to front the show will be roundly criticised by viewers before the show even begins.
