I just have the feeling that this governmental decision will be revoked............due to public outrage.
This is the work of those in the system who oppose the rules so they find a case that is technically valid and pursue it with vigor to embarrass the government. Yes rules are rules but they need to be tempered with common sense in these sorts of cases. This is essentially the anti British using an old lady for their political ends.
Cynicism much, TTT?
The law should be applied without fear or favour - and it is clearly being applied to the letter in this case.

That said, there must be some room for common sense and compassion - that someone is not disadvantaged to the level that this lady will be - by application of a law designed to prevent young healthy immigrants from latching onto our seriously over-generous benefits systems.

I hope that Sqad is proved correct - and outrage can make a change here - it is clearly appropriate that it does.
It's rather a short article and leaves out much of the important detail.
It is to be hoped that the decision for deportation is based on more than the scant references given.
However, it would be a magnanimous gesture, whatever the circumstances to allow this lady to remain here.
I believe this has been allowed to run so that at the last minute the government will step in and let the lady stay. In other words "look how wonderfully compassionate your government is".
I tend to agree with TTT, this was an easy target to at least make the rules adhered to for once. There is very little further info and on why it's been pursued almost to check-in and really hope it gets revoked.
Is it coz I iz white !?

If she was black the lefties would be out in force demanding she's allowed to stay.
..where are they now ?
I think the wrong decision has been made here. This woman would appear to have little time left, so why should she be deprived of the comfort of being cared for by her own family ?

Why not encourage all old ladies to come and live here - really help the NHS cope, that will.
Silly decision.
That is twice we have been in agreement this morning Viv !
Makes a nice change eh mikey .....
It does indeed Viv !

Probably realising that ethnicity is not the root of this issue, so there is no point making a comment about an aspect that does not exist.
Andy is right here....ethnicity has absolutely nothing to do with this case....whatsoever.
Youre entitled to your opinions i suppose, no matter how blinkered...but I'll say it again, if she was black the ooman rights brigade would be out in force.....

The 'blinkered' aspect of my opinion is a matter of opinion - not sure why you think that, since I have agreed with the OP.

If the lady was black, the Human Rights activists may well have been seen in protest - but she isn't, so that rather negates your point, as I have already advised.
