No, DT. They will no more be abandoned than those from other EU countries living here will be thrown out. People move about. They did before the EU existed, they will continue to do so after the EU is long gone. As well as this, and incredible as it may seem, people from outside the EU move to and from the EU. The issue is about regaining control over a situation that is currently out of control.
You need to think it through. The UK will not come to an end if it leaves the EU. In fact things that both we and other European nations want will continue pretty much unaltered. Those things that we don't ant we will be able to reject.
“Oh, and break up the UK at the same time as the glorious Nicola and the aromatic Salmond have said 'referendum and we're off if it's a No.' Brilliant.”
If (and it’s a big if) Scotland is granted a second referendum and if they vote “Out” (an even bigger if) then it’s a win-win as far as I’m concerned. They have no more right to demand to be considered a separate entity than does London. (Far less so, in fact, since London has twice the population and generates about twenty times the GDP than that of Scotland).

"80% of the SNP, PC and Labour (even the Cornish) plus 90% of the Lib Dems and 50% of the Tories minus the Farage mob and forget the Greens and the Screaming Loony Parties does not sound like a Brexit to me. "
Means nothing...it's what the people decide. No-one I know wants the UK to stay in the EU.

Naomi,
Cameron did mot want to make it an election promise, he never wanted a referendum. Elements in his party forced Cameron's hand. He had to give in to them because of his weakness.
If he gets a STAY vote, all the Euro skeptics in his party will have to shut up, and Cameron will finally be able to lead strongly. If the vote goes against him, he is effectively finished. So all to fight for.
