I don't think TB has done himself any favours in combating the accusations when he says:

“The reasons for the BBC taking this decision are that my evidence to Dame Janet Smith shows, I believe, that a cover up took place - one that I had no knowledge of. This goes against what the BBC believe."

Huh?

Got you shoota Tony Hall.
Sorry Togo, no, it was Lord Hall, the current top man.
We know what happens now don't we? The beeb cast aspersions at TB. The Police raid his home, with BBC reporters present, seize computers, a brand new laptop, IPhone, and bags of 'evidence. A call goes out 'inviting' complaints under Operation Yew Tree. Said complaints pile up and a press blanket ban is then enforced. Blackburn is hung out to twist in the wind and has a heart attack brought on by stress. Result.
From what was said this morning I gather there is a report by Bill Cotton that he interviewed Tony Blackburn, not a copy of the interview itself. It therefore comes down to Bill Cotton said he interviewed and Tony Blackburn said he didn't. Unless the BBC can produce what was said by both people at this interview then it's surely invalid. If I said on AB that I'd interviewed the Queen the first answer would be "where's your proof?"
^^The first question would be....
^The first response even.. ;o)
Plus Vulcan, Blackburn would surely have talked to Cotton on many occasions sometimes I am sure just in passing. An aside during a informal chat or Cotton 'thinking' he talked to Blackburn is not a meeting surely. I would think that a organisation such as the BBC should have records of any meeting that is called and meant to be formal and indeed minutes taken.
Togo, exactly, there is awful smell coming from this. I believe the BBC are using the sacking of Tony Blackburn as a cynical ploy to divert attention from their own many shortcomings.
To plagiarise a well known saying. 'I think they are gonna need a bigger diversion'.
According to the World at One, Blackburn was sacked because he wasn't open enough with the Enquiry.....basically in the opinion of Dame Janet Smith, he lied.
I suspect Mr Blackburn will quietly slink into the background and disappear.

I certainly won't miss him.
That's fairy nuff then Mikey ;)

What, no punishment for crimes against entertainment, and for cracking pathetic jokes?

//Speaking to the BBC News Channel, Dame Janet said both Bill Cotton and the senior lawyer said they had had conversations with the DJ.
"[He] told me that no such conversation had taken place and this was not a lapse of memory on his part. They simply had not taken place and I rejected that evidence," she said.//

In the absence of documentation supporting the claims of the heavyweights, Bill Cotton and the senior lawyer, I wonder why she rejected Tony Blackburn’s evidence in favour of theirs? Who’s lying? Something very fishy about this.
Hopkirk - I appreciate (and so does he!) that Mr Blackburn is a 'Marmite' person - I love him!

That distant rumbling sound you can hear is the combined forces of the cavalry, in the form of Carter-Ruck, riding to our Tone's rescue! Yay!!!
Nothing remotely "fishy" is going on Naomi.

Blackburn is simply trying to protect his ass, in the face of what can only be described as a car-crash of an Enquiry for the BBC.
unless he has something to hide?
