One way or another, the decision the UK makes in the coming referendum is going to have consequences for the way the world works. Perhaps, for many people, it's more important how the UK works. Fair enough (although how the UK works is in part determined by its relationship with the world). But don't expect the world to stop caring, or to have its say.

“Is the clue in the word "European" perhaps?”
That does not seem to be much of a consideration. A large chunk of Turkey is not in Europe. It is arguable precisely how much, but not arguable that a sizeable portion of Turkey lies in Asia. Yet Turkey is one of the current five official candidates being considered for EU membership. The European Union will extend its pernicious influence wherever it sees an opportunity and will not let a trifling matter such as geography get in the way.
“And, as the corbyloon points out, there's a fairly obvious reason why they're not members. Politics is not your best subject, really, is it?”
And perhaps geography may not be TheChair’s.
The G20 is concerned solely with finance. It is interested in little else. Thus its stance on the UK’s membership is based solely on that consideration. It believes that economically the UK is better served in the EU. I’m not convinced by that argument but even if I was there is more to it than that. I’d sooner be a little poorer (and it would only be a little, even by the G20’s estimates) and live in the UK rather than a country called “EU”.
