Only because we do not understand what is happening. History makes sense of events, but when we are living through them, the big picture is hard to see. In 10 years we will have all the pieces and all will be crystal clear. At the moment we are only being told what they think we should know. Overtime, we will learn the things they don't want us to know, and present events will not look so crazy ( or not look so random ) as we perceive them now.

Ten years have elapsed since the invasion of Iraq but one thing that is crystal clear is that we have a right mess. Similarly 911.
How does history make sense of these events?

We were told at the time of the invasion of Iraq that it was because Iraq was part of an 'Axis of Evil' and was implicated in the 911 atrocity. So the public supported the war.
But we were lied to and none of that was true. So there must have been another (or other reasons) for the war.
Take your pick from
- permanent US bases in the middle east.
- a resurgence in terrorism resulting in more state surveillance of everybody.
- pushing the Russians out of the middle east / Meditteranean.
- a land base to protect Israel
- an expansion of US arms complex, thus securing US jobs
- less dependence on the Saudis
- more control over our energy security
Etc

Gromit, //Of course you have to have minds that are inquisative in the first place. But I think there will be enough of those in the uk asian community.//
What makes you think that? Islam doesn’t look kindly upon people who ask the wrong questions.
//In most ways society has changed for the better over the last hundred years, and we must assume the same will be the same in the future.//
Why must we assume that? How can we assume that?

I don’t think you do understand what is happening.
//In 10 years we will have all the pieces and all will be crystal clear.//
That is a distinct possibility. Unfortunately, I think in retrospect we will realise the gross error of our liberal ways by which time it will be too late.

If things are getting better how is it that the younger Asians and Blacks are more radical than their older generation, those who were prepared to come to this country and live along side of us in peace?
Can we expect the off-springs of the present youngsters, to be better or even worse than their parents?
