My husband told me last night that people in Brussels are offering all sorts of help to the those affected by yesterday’s atrocity, including transport and accommodation. It’s heartening to know that in the midst of such terrifying examples of man’s appalling inhumanity to man, true humanity survives - and thrives.
If you want to read an uplifting book about how people react after a tragic event read "The Day the world came to town" by Jim Defede.

After 9/11 dozens of planes were diverted to a small town in Newfoundland, Canada.
Thousands of passengers were stranded in the town and could not get out or back home.
So the townsfolk banded together to help these stranded people.
They let them sleep in their houses, they fed them, they even then started to entertain them by teaching people new skills like how to play chess or bridge to keep them occupied.
They also took them out for walks in the nature reserves in the local area.
It is an amazing book which will restore your faith in human nature.

VHG, a friend of mine was in mid-flight over the Atlantic bound for the USA on 9/11. Her flight was diverted to Moncton in Canada. The passengers and crew were met by the Red Cross who distributed food and clothing, and they were welcomed into private houses until they were able to resume their journey. She had nothing but praise for the people of that city - and I think there were many other unsung heroes in far flung places on that day too.

Agreed.
At times like this we see the best of people and the worst (those who complained on Twitter that that the Jeremy Kyle programme had been cancelled) of people.
There are hundreds of devastated people waking up to the loss of fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, sisters and brothers this morning.
