...will probably be the hardest task" the UK has ever faced.

So says Trevor Phillips, former chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

According to a recent survey:

52% of those quizzed disagreed that homosexuality should be legal in Britain, and 47% said it was unacceptable for a gay or lesbian person to teach in school.

Only 34% would tell the police if they thought someone they knew was getting involved with supporters of terrorism in Syria and 4% said they sympathise with people who take part in suicide bombing to fight injustice.

39% were also found to be of the view that "wives should always obey their husbands".

23% said they would support there being areas of Britain in which Sharia law was introduced.

Mr Phillips said "The integration of Britain's Muslims will probably be the hardest task we've ever faced. It will require the abandonment of the milk-and-water multiculturalism still so beloved of many, and the adoption of a far more muscular approach to integration."

How do we begin to abandon "the milk-and-water multiculturalism still so beloved of many" and adopt a “far more muscular approach to integration”?

naomi; There is nothing to combat: it doesn't exist, it's an illusion.

Khandro, I've seen that before but couldn't remember what was said. I watched the beginning again and get the impression he's saying that the whole of society must change to accommodate ethnic minorities. Right. Good idea! That will cure the problem. :o/
No - not at all, in fact quite the opposite. He's saying 'multiculturalism' simply doesn't exist. Watch on.

I say, the sooner we banish the word from the language the better and we can then get on addressing inter-racial and inter-religious problems.

Khandro, OK, I'll watch on. I gleaned that bit from the very beginning.
I think the real fact is that neither we nor the Muslims want to integrate at all. I would be quite happy if they picked up their tents and went home.
Nothing to do with integration but did you know that driving is 'Dangerous and exposes women to evil'. Well so says Saudi Arabia's most senior cleric !

They have come to our Country with very little intention of integrating, we should meet them with the same lack of intention to change our Laws/way of life to accommodate them.
If they don't like it they don't have to stay, it was their choice to come here in the first place.
Probably the evil thoughts would be to run the men down TonyAv.
Exact my views Baldric, at least we agree on this topic.
That's probably what the Saudi men are scared of, ayg.
"The integration of Muslims" There is no integration. Islam and the West are incompatible. That is not going to change.
Jim once again rattles off reams of introspective blurb as if writing a thesis with a minimum word requirement. But can he tell us why we are not, indeed never been, accused of Sikhophobia or Hindophobia.
Just remember the words of Kipling, "East is East and West is West..."

East is East, West is West, if you don't like the we or our Country's Law's, FECK OFF, Simple.
//If they don't like it they don't have to stay, it was their choice to come here in the first place.//

Baldric, and sadly our "choice" to encourage them.
I`m not sure what you propose to do with the Muslims who were born here
Edward I didn't seem to have a problem in 1294 when he decided to expel the Jews. He expelled the lot, irrespective of where they were born, not to return for over 350 years. Mind, I am not saying he was right, but at the time they were perceived as a threat and he put England first.
237 Their parents must have come from 'somewhere'. They who cling to and refuse to integrate into our British society, can be encouraged and assisted in the return to the culture that they so pine for. It must be the least we can do to show our appreciation of the insight that they have allowed us.
Their parents might have come from somewhere but their offspring were born here
If a cat has kittens in the oven it doesn't make them cakes.
