Okay...I can understand David Cameron voluntarily revealing his tax returns, but why should George?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/george-osborne-tax-return-shows-chancellor-earned-more-than-200000-in-a-year-a6979061.html

I am not a fan of him (and not because of the whole Sheldon Cooper thing), but really - why should he be compelled to do this???

No Ed, leave it. A News thread with no disagreements or notching is something to be kept and cherished.

Yes, quite happy with this. It depends on the current expectations. Until now, his tax affairs were his affairs - but now Dave has changed the game and the 'Caesar's Wife' principle has been pushed forwards. I have no particular desire to know about his tax returns, but from now on clarity will be imperative.
^^^ 'happy with this thread'.
Of course George is well within his rights to say 'Get Lost'. However in the current climate ( thanks Dave ) it would surely look like he has something to hide.
Too late...he and Corbyn has already published their latest tax records.

He is within his rights, but the recent actions of his peers, colleagues and antics of those in The City now mean that anyone who presents themselves to be elected for public office will have to show 100% transparency in all facets of their lives......the idiots.

If you're making a small fortune (as many are) why on earth would you want to be a politician, when you could play a quick 9 in the morning at the local club in Nassau, spot of lunch then beers, beach and BBQ for the rest of the day and do so for 6 months of the year?
Yeah, God forbid we should have honest politicians!
My posts - notching should actually be "bitching"

So where should the line be drawn ?
If one member of the cabinet or shadow cabinet feels a need to be open and honest, ought the rest simply say, "Get lost" then ? On their own head be it.
No
people who are standing for public office which involves public money
routinely expect to make greater disclosures than usual

aa for Cash for questions - I dont know if there is a law that an MP will not ask questions in return for moolah
but when it happened everyone felt disgust

a medical professor maintained that smoking really wasnt THAT bad ( what ? ) and on his sudden and unexpected death - it was found he was being paid off by ASH - the pressure pro smoking group - oops ....
Keep the notching to the privacy of your home!

As possible next PM Osborne might have had no choice?
“We know of no spectacle so ridiculous as the British public in one of its periodic fits of morality.”

Historian, Thomas Macaulay, 1800-1859
Well in fairness, accusations of hypocrisy is more valid than those of porcine amour.
We must ensure that the tax returns of all MPs are open to public scrutiny, including anyone who works in local government,(including council employees), the Health Service, or any project, or construction works paid for with public money. We may also want to make it illegal (punishable with punitive fines and property seizures) for any transaction to take place on a cash in hand basis for goods or services of any kind.
