They are mainly used for hunting 'big game' due to the 'stopping power' just one will kill an elephant! They are even banned from use in war , under most situations, they are more commonly known as 'Dum Dum' bullets.

/// yet again -
there is a man who is jailed for possession of firearms
and AOG asks in an agonised tone whether he should be jailed
he was... AOG, he was - Laws are there to be obeyed and not flouted ///
Since hardly anyone on AB can understand what you type, it is little wonder that you yourself cannot read properly what others have typed.
Where have I asked "in agonising tones" or any other tones that spin around in that brain of yours "whether he should be jailed"?
This is the question that I asked:
"Surely He Should Have Received A Jail Sentence For Keeping This Stash Of Weapons"?
Perhaps in the sober light of day you may be able to read this properly?

I don't understand your logic on this question.
Your post asks a question, ''surely he should have received a jail sentence for keeping this stash of weapons?''
Then you post a link that says he DID get a jail sentence!
It would make sense if your question was ''surely he should not have received a jail sentence'' or ''was this sentence justified?'' . But as it stands your question defies logic!
For the record I think he should have got a lot longer more like 10 years!

on a point of order on a sunday morning with not much going on

Oh come on AOG ! put your glasses on and read again. - 'there is a man jailed for possession of firearms'
this is a sentence with a main verb. - Just like miss thingey the english teacher taught you all those years ago. Or am I the only one on AB with English O level ? [ 1966 grade 6 ]. I suspect not.
OK I agree I could have taken 'and' out and made two simple sentences.
Or are you only OK with one word sentences and anything longer is just too much for an old man ? Like 'yeah' or 'wha'?' or 'crap!'
and yes to return to the thread, the hard-to-understand idea that you are struggling with, is: " I think someone who is convicted of firearms possession should go to jail. "

OL
petition to suspend....
OL you have a legal background innit ?
Sentences arent suspended.
He could be pardoned ( but has to admit the offence as part of the deal ) - he could appeal, or they could just let him out ( Carl Bridgewater four I think ) . Or he could serve it ....
Roll up! Roll up ! all the Laura Norder devotees who insist the letter of the law is followed except when they think it shouldnt be ....
( thx to Kurt Godel for that sentence structure )

eddie - eddie leave him - he just aint worf it !
You have pointed out a screaming non-sequitur to AOG - this week's offer is "buy-one-and-get-one-free"
and as he replied to me; AOG has answered - " wot you on abart ? "
well ! the howling non sequitur certainly isnt an endangered species on AB !
