An Algerian-born father, separated from the English wife he married in a Muslim ceremony, has failed in his High Court bid to have his two young sons circumcised in accordance with his strict Muslim faith. The judge said that choice should be left until children are old enough to decide for themselves.

Could this lead to a change in the law? I hope so.

Yes, but I am in a position to compare life before and after, ummmm, and there are no drawbacks, unlike female circumcision.
/No drawbacks\\

LOL!!!
They are done for different purposes. Female mutilation is done to take away any sexual pleasure a woman might experience.
Yes, I know.
Question Author
hc, female circumcision isn't the issue here - neither is adult choice.

Jackdaw, I laughed too. :o)
You should see some of the men in the office - I seriously question if they ever see soap and water.

I wouldn't let them near me without a sand blasting!!
Back on topic, then. No, this won't make a difference to the law.
Question Author
Islay, sounds an odd sort of office. Which bits of these men are you looking at?
What a rum do Islay.
Lol greasy hair, the look of manky skin - I don't even want to think about underwear!!
I bet they don't think much of it either.
Question Author
Islay, I'm assuming you have no idea whether or not these unwashed men are circumcised, but if they are, I don't imagine the bits beneath their underwear are any cleaner than the rest of them!
It should change the law were there any justice in the world, but it won't. There is no compulsion to do so if there is no dispute. At most it sets a precedence that in the event of a guardian disagreement then the physical assault should not occur.

Plus if they choose to do so when old enough perhaps they should be taken into care for their own protection as they can't seem to make rational decisions that don't result in mutilating themselves.
This is becoming surreal. It's all a load of poppycock without the poppy.
I take it you don't have a Prince Albert, OG :D

OG //It should change the law were there any justice in the world//

Indeed it should. If the law allowed people to slice a bit from any other part of a child's body there would be outrage, and rightly so.
religion would have been over millennia ago if parents did not brainwash their children from infants. Anyone whose IQ exceeds their she size would have determined for them self that all religion is complete and utter twaddle and the world would be very different. Thus we are here and for religious bigotry children must be abused for their dopey parents. Disgusting.
nope

the law engaged is the Children Act 1989

where the interests of the children are paramount

we've had this before - and no there are no plans to change it
Question Author
^But has a ruling like this ever been brought before? This is a first, surely?
I was circumsized at around thirteen. I hated it at the time, but I am very glad now - for aesthetic and cleanliness reasons.

It was done because my foreskin was defective.

I am unsure why the practice has evolved in some cultures - reasons are probably lost in history.
