I have no interest in London but I would like Sadiq to never again speak in front of segregated audiences. That would make me respect him.

Prudie.... I don't agree with your assertion that Khan would have won even if he had been Tory. Labour won the Mayoral election, with a British born and bred candidate, that happens to be a Muslim.

As I tire of repeating here, if the London Tories supporters had managed to get off their bums and vote ( like they did with Boris......twice ) then we would have a Tory Mayor. But they didn't.

Labour won and I suggest everybody gets used to it ! We will have another opportunity in a few years time.

Mikey, I agree with Prudie. Boris wasn't elected solely by those who usually vote Conservative - his personality won him office. Election of the London Mayor goes beyond party politics. And please stop telling everyone to get used to it. We know Khan has been elected.

As in every other Election, ever held, there was lots of factors involved in the London Mayor battle.

How each candidate appears on the telly, was he dressed smartly ?, was he "nice" ?, How much do people trust him ?...etc, etc.

But to read lots of the posts on AB this last 48 hours, you could be forgiven for thinking that it was one issue and one issue only that won the Mayor for Khan.....his religion, and that is where I disagree.

He won the Election fair and square, and all these sour grapes are just a lot of hot air.

Sour grapes, hot air, whatever it pleases you to think... don't kid yourself that he won it because the electorate wanted a Labour mayor. He would have succeeded under any banner.

Talbot...Khan stood as the Labour Party candidate for London Mayor, not the Muslim candidate.

By the way, what is Goldsmiths religion ? His father, James Goldsmith was a prominent member of the Goldsmith family of German Jewish and French descent, but I haven't seen anybody remarks on Zac's religious background.

This is probably because it wasn't relevant....but what a pity the same accord was not given to Khan.

But I am pointing out that Khan won because he was a Labour candidate, as much as any other factor, probably more so, and Goldsmith lost because he was a Tory.
