There shouldn't be specific 'representation' of any group. The job should go to the applicant who will do the best job.
She is a bit of a lady dog and she will stomp over anyone & everybody to get what she wants.

@Zacs

Katie's piece mentions that the charities' chief quoted stats at her, to the effect that, whilst 42% of London graduates are from BAME groups, only a single-figure percentage are in this type of job.

The ethnic mix of Salford is not included in the article.

Naomi, agreed, so why do you think such an organisation as Creative Access, which has quite a few white Directors and trustees, exists?
@naomi

//The job should go to the applicant who will do the best job. //

The vacancy is for someone with zero qualifications and, being an apprenticeship, by nature, *necessarily* zero previous experience in such a role.

Ya dig?

To promote diversity?
Hypognosis, oh yes. I dig.
Question Author
Naomi didn't mention qualifications. I think we're talking natural ability here.
@naomi

I failed to close with a question, which was 'so how does one assess "best" given those parameters".

The problem of racism is that "best" has been assessed in terms of "like us/not like us".

Question Author
Thanks Naomi for proving a need for their existence. If AOG looks in and acknowledges the need maybe we can bring this silly debate to a close, Ed?
Hypognosis, // 'so how does one assess "best" given those parameters". //

Pass.
Zacs-Master, // Thanks Naomi for proving a need for their existence. //

I haven't proven the need for their existence.
Of interest to me is whether a job vacancy attracts a mix of applications which *exactly* match the ethnicity mix of the city where the job will be or if there is a mismatch.

eg
applications to join the police force
applications to work down the sewers
applications for doctor/lawyer/something high paid

@naomi

Your 17:00 post chimes with my own view, despite any appearance that I'm quibbling with it.

This specific job advert is overtly "affirmative action", despite there being no such programme, in this country.

It is from the school of well-meant incompetence, I fear.

Hypognosis personally I feel that these people, however well-meaning, create not diversity, but division, and that engenders resentment which in turn exacerbates racism.
Take a look at Sky news.

No they are OVER represented !!

what a load of old rollocks this all is. If I started a group for whites I'd be hauled, quite rightly, over the coals and probably directly to jail.

You don't need to start a group which promotes white people beyond their capabilities.

It's called the Establishment.

Been around for centuries, and is still going strong.

I mean - look at the City of London...so many institutions run by chinless wonders who nearly bankrupted the country and then awarded themselves massive bonuses.

They are absolutely not there on ability.

If they were, why are so many of them useless?
Are they not just intern positions? Not real contracts, just opportunities to see what happens for a limited time.
I think gay people are under-represented.
