I suppose they could go back to the electric chair, but have never understood why the lethal injection seem to be so complicated.

From what I have seen/heard, they use three, one after the other in intervals, but sometimes that dosent always work, and it can take a long time to die, some in terrible pain, (no sympathy from me).

So why cant they just give them an overdoes of anaesthetic that you are given before an operation, or a big shot of heroin?

I have often thought the same. There are poisons which can kill in an instant without causing suffering. It is a long drawn-out process, and in my opinion even more cruel than the electric chair or gas chamber. Hangings in Britain took on average 15 seconds from start to finish.

Why not the drug that vets use to put dogs and other animals to sleep?
Seriously , I am 100% opposed to the death penalty but if they MUST use it , I can never understand why the USA does not just ask for volunteers to form firing squads.
Hell, there would be so many wanting to do it they would have to draw lots to see who got to 'pull the trigger'. You could auction places in the squads, highest bid wins the right to legally kill a human. Bet someone would pay a $million or more.

I`m more concerned that pfizers seems to think it can dictate what governments do - they are a drug manufacturer not a self appointed conscience for the world.

cant see whats wrong with sticking a cannula in and bleed them to death quite painless and definitely works

^^ The point is that if something goes wrong the drug manufacturer stands a chance of being sued for damages. The US government will not accept responsibility if for example the execution goes wrong and the convict ends up with permanent brain damage rather than being killed outright. That could mean the drug maker being sued for hundreds of millions of $ in damages.

As Eddie says, Vets have been putting our furry loved ones to sleep for a long time. I usually stay until the end and they just drift off to sleep. My first hound was a big dog and he got two injections with ten minutes or so between them.

Thats another good way Eddie, it only took a few minutes for my old dog to pass away, no pain, just dozed off.

Why cant the US Government employ their own science/chemist people to make the drug, they wouldn't need many, and just a small lab.

Some years ago Michael Portillo did a documentary about capital punishment and found there was a painless execution involving nitrogen. They tried it on a feeding pig and pumped the gas to the area where the pig was feeding and the pig collapsed. They stopped the gas so there wasn't enough to kill it and it got bag to its feet and carried on feeding which proved it did not associate anything harmful with feeding.

The use of nitrogen is similar to experiments folk might have seen on TV where oxygen levels in a chamber are reduced and nitrogen levels go up, folk cannot do simple tasks such as put on an oxygen mask and they feel euphoric so they don't really care.

I am not a supporter of capital punishment, and never will be.

But considering America has millions of people who delight in possessing guns, why don't they use a firing squad, instead of botching these legalised killings with drugs, that may not work ?

After all, it shouldn't be difficult to find enough volunteers, should it ?

I don't know why the septics seem intent on using terrible methods. Use the rope with the drop, simples. Ar5ing about with injections and lecky, gas chambers gawd knows what, just use the rope!

It's hard to think of a drug produced by Pfizer that can enhance and save lives with a correct dose yet dispatch them if they have too much.
