/// Tanzanian-born Mrs Sargeant, 50 - a former chairwoman of the Society of Garden Designers said 'I don't come across any other black garden designers when I'm out and about. But that doesn't mean black people aren't interested in gardening and design. ///

/// 'What we're offered is very much the typical English garden that is perhaps not so relevant to people of multiple cultures and ethnicities that live in Britain.' ///

I've got news for you dear, Chelsea is in England, but that doesn't mean that at the Chelsea flower show, we don't see just 'English' Gardens but also 'Italian Gardens' 'Japanese Gardens' etc.

But I must admit we don't see many 'African Gardens' or 'Indian Gardens' perhaps it is because not many in those countries are as fond of gardening as we the English and others are?

Yes, we might see some more diversity, or we might not. What's really important here is that it opens up the discussion.

Oh, by the way - have you been watching Antiques Roadshow this year? Hate to break this to you but...
Oh gawd! Haven't we got enough problems controlling our borders?

Yes I have as a matter of fact, but that is the BBC for you, although he seems a pleasant enough fellow, I wouldn't trust him though to give me a fair price.

Know what I mean, he seems to be a bit of a 'Dell Boy', a bit of a wheeler dealer in comparison to the usual chaps and chapesses.
SP, what's happened to AR?
But your point about gardens in India might be a little off. I've been there and can confirm that they have some of the most beautiful gardens in the world.

Can't tell you about Africa - because that's a continent with many different countries each with a different climate.

Antiques Roadshow has gone all diverse. Two black experts, one gay one and women experts all over the place.
Good God! I might start watching it so that I can be offended and refuse to watch it ever again.
Some things a man can accept but the women???? Arthur Negus will be spinning in his grave...
I won't be watching Antiques Roadshow until they get a gay black woman presenter.
I can see Mr Farage getting his spades together....

nss ...

“We come from the earth. We return to the earth – and in between we have gardens.”

I think Mrs Sargeant is just having a 'dig' at white gardeners.

I don't know what she is moaning about, after all we grow blackberries, blackcurrants and I believe even black orchids.
If we do see an influx of African gardeners I hope they form an orderly Kew.
aog - and black tulips please
Mrs Sergeant won't have black orchids, AOG. Only males have orchids.
Stop it with the colour nonsense. Its inherited culture that dominates, not genetic colour. We are all the same....
david small > We are all the same....

The most inaccurate line of the day contender!
