Why Should A Golf Club Be Barred From Hosting The British Open, Just Because It Doesn't Allow Female Membership?

Because they have no automotic rights to host the tournament.

The club have decided not to allow women members, which is their right - and the Royal and Ancient have a right to choose another course.

It is the Club's choice to bar women members (their club, their rules.) It is the R & A's choice to bar that club from holding the Open (their Championship, their rules.)

There is only one other Open club which bars women members, Royal Troon, so no doubt the same fate will apply to them in the event they fail to allow women to join.

I can't see any problem in admitting women members.For many years I played at a club where women members were welcome.

The British Open is all inclusive the club is not therefore they cannot possibly hold it at a restrictive venue.

wonder if they'll change their mind when their membership fees increase because any TV money won't be going into their coffers
(I've no proof it does go into their coffers, but I'm sure it does)

They should considerer calling their club, Men's Muirfield Golf Club.
