The unelected President of the European Commission has decided that ALL populist right-wing parties across Europe will be barred from all decision-making in the EU, and in so doing has, says Ron Liddle, provided the electorate with the most important reason to vote Leave next month.

//If the people of any European country elect a right-wing populist government, that country will face sanctions and possibly lose all of its voting rights. The Commission has just awarded itself the powers to do this. The sort of behaviour we used to see in the old Soviet Union. //

And if that doesn’t convince you, some more gems from Mr Juncker.

What are you 'Remainers' really voting for? This man is treating you as fools and he's telling you, quite clearly, that you're fools. The ‘Daily Fright Bites’ from your representatives pale into insignificance.

On this little nugget it's the opinions of the remainers I'm interested in ... Come on remainers let's hear your voice.

Those hands btw don't go with that head ... Sure sign of a reptilian life form
Mikey might, but not I.
For anyone who is still undecided this should be a vote clincher for the Out campaign. OUTrageous.
The unelected President of the European Commission cannot decide anything. The EC makes recommendations only. Decisions are taken by the elected MEPs and/or the Council of Ministers, who are of course, members of the elected governments of the member states.

//Decisions are taken by the elected MEPs\\.

Don't think so!
Voting rights can be stripped but only with unanimous support of other member states... so in practice probably wont ever happen.
The Brexiters should get this to the electorate ASAP..

/// Voting rights can be stripped but only with unanimous support of other member states... so in practice probably wont ever happen. ///

Probably won't happen?????

But then probably could.

What next the total ban of the right-wing press?

This is a frightening path some of you wish to travel.

Just confirms what I've thought for a long time.

It’s not the level-headed voting population of Europe which is wrong, it's the intransigence of established political parties and the EU bureaucracy who prefer to denounce anyone seeking a change of direction in how they are governed as extremists. It is high time that they attempt to understand what motivates the supporters of popular movements and stop defending their outdated, self-serving policies.
standard EU democracy, bar anyone who does not hold the pre prescribed view

From the link. //The Commission has just awarded itself the powers to do this……

……It is already sticking the boot into Poland. The Poles had the cheek to elect a socially conservative government. Now they have been warned that they may face sanctions and lose all decision-making powers. //

You are sleepwalking this country into disaster.
"When it becomes serious, you have to lie."

he sounds exactly like Boris to me. And if you vote Brexit, Boris will be your next PM, and he'll treat you like fools, as he has spent the last few years treating Londoners.

But of course Brexiters love Boris. Fancy that!

Jno, //he sounds exactly like Boris to me.//

Does he? Does he really? You’re happy to treated as a puppet – or more precisely as a muppet - by an unelected, jumped-up, foreign bureaucrat and yet you object to being treated as a lesser fool by an elected British politician – someone you actually have an opportunity to get rid of if he doesn't suit. Fancy that!!

And like Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn.

And also jno it would seem.

And isn't it strange that the lefties who wish to 'remain', support our Tory Prime Minister?
I am tempted to vote out, but what really puts me off is this kind of EU bashing which is dishonest. It is not going to convince me to leave, and the misrepresentation is condensing and patronising.

Far from being an example of being undemocratic, it is the opposite. It is the EU trying to safeguard democracy. Mr Liddle says Junckner has just given himself this power which is untrue. The 'Rule of Law' mechanism was passed in 2014, and has already been used in Poland.

One of the criteria for joining the EU is that a country must have an independent judicary, and that law is overseen by Judges, not an ephemeral Government. If a country elect a Government, and starts to undermine the rule of law, then the EU can use sanctions on them, like suspending their voting power in the Commision. It is not specifically targetting right wing Governments, the Rule of Law mechanism can be used on a hard left one, if it too were to by pass the law of the country and act illegally.

If you agree with Liddle, you are saying that the Prime Minister, or President does not have to act legally or lawfully. I think they should, which is why I am calling out Liddle and the lying Brexitters for peddling ***.

Gromit, //I am calling out Liddle and the lying Brexitters for peddling ***.//

It's not *** (whatever that was) and Liddle and the Brexiters aren’t lying.

//The President of the unelected executive arm of the European Union (EU) has vowed to block all right wing populists from power across the continent, shortly after acquiring the power to exert “far-reaching sanctions” on elected governments.

Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, promised to exclude Norbert Hofer, the leader of Austria’s Freedom Party (FPÖ), from all EU decision-making if elected ahead of yesterday’s presidential vote.

“There will be no debate or dialogue with the far-right,” the liberal bureaucrat told AFP. //

What it amounts to is control. The EU is denying every member country its democratic right to elect a government of its choice. You might be happy with that but I’m not.
"In principle, the Council of Europe's so-called Venice Commission in Strasbourg is a recognized referee on tricky constitutional questions. The Polish government expressly requested an opinion from this board of European and American constitutional law experts. In March, however, the decision of the Venice Commission went against Poland. Suddenly the government in Warsaw no longer felt bound to its commitment to recognize the judgment."

If Poland is trying to control its judiciary, is that a good thing? If it seeks the opinion of an arbiter but refuses to accept its decision, is that a reasonable approach?
