I've just put Ch4 News on and there does seem to be rather a lot of people protesting. Don't they understand democracy?

I have just remembered this. It was written by Charles Sykes and used by Bill Gates in a speech to graduates in the USA a number of years ago. RULE 1 Life is not fair - get used to it. RULE 2 The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself. RULE 3 You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a...

Corby if you are going to cut and paste, please tidy up the spaces if you expect people to even bother

reading the plaintive missives.
TOGO, when I pasted it the screen was in landscape and it looked fine. When I pasted it in portrait just now, the spaces appeared so it was not my fault and I have not been able to get rid of them.

fiction-factory, // Not many would have been at Glasto unless they'd been taken by parents….I took a group of students there today as part of their GCSE coursework in Leftie Anti- British Studies//

A big group you escorted then – and most not old enough to vote. As a responsible adult you really should have more control over your students.

Peter Pedant, //" I have been totally screwed by a generation that should have known better and I am meant to look happy satisfied and grateful ? "//

That generation does know better. It knew this country before it was strangled by the EU and it fought and won the freedom that these kids and the people who support their idealistic fantasies are so eager to throw away.
I think they may be worried that the freedom you mention may have come at the expense of their future. A future your generation have already had and prospered through. I think they may have seen a Britain more prosperous than at any previous time snatched from their grasp. I think they may have seen a bunch of xenophobic old fools take away the multicultural Britain they were brought up in.
The jury's out on whether any of the above will become true. But I do believe they have a right to be worried it might.
///I think they may have seen a Britain more prosperous than at any previous time snatched from their grasp.///

.You are a card, zacs. (although good parody should be almost believable, imo)
He's also a fantasist.
Svejk, c'mon then....tell me when Britain was more prosperous.

I've seen some stupidly ageist suggestions on here that the voting age should be raised. Maybe it should be capped at retirement age? Seriously, it's like listening to the incoherent ramblings in the day room of an old folks home on here at the moment.
It's just another rent-a-mob organised by professional rabble-rousers. By the way, why are they picking on Boris? There are plenty of others to choose from.
Naomi.....explain why I'm a fantasist please. Please don't join the 'I don't really have an answer so I'll just insult the poster' group.
Just off the top of my head, I can remember when young people packed the pubs out every night. And/or could actually get a mortgage.
Zacs-Master, no insult. You know nothing about me but you assume you do. Therefore you're fantasising.
At a time when all the young people I knew could earn more than the average wage, a mortgage cost 3.5x the AW. Now a mortgage costs 12x the AW. And young people earn nothing like it.
Pubs are called Bars now Svejk, do try to keep up. As for mortgages, they seem to do very well on the continent without them.
Naomi, which part did you take personally then? Looks like I touched a nerve.
Most on the continent rent their housing.
Zacs-Master, it takes more than ill-informed ramblings to affect my nerves - I just think personal misrepresentation must be nipped in the bud - so I nipped it.
-- answer removed --
ZM has just called me clumsy and ill-informed on another thread, so I wouldn't worry too much, Naomi.
;o)
The strange practice on the continent of not owning their own home is just one example of how our cultures differ. These differences are one reason why each nation needs to control itself and not have laws imposed by those with no understanding nor care for the differences.
