"We understand that debates get heated, but personal attacks and abusive language will not be tolerated"

Can we all calm down a bit please?

I've been written to several times about how abrasive and aggressive this section has become.

Several have pointed out that the language in particular has become childish and brutish, with name calling and hyperbole being especially annoying.

So let's calm down a bit. Let's stop calling people "traitors to britain" and "friends of jihad" or similarly rude things.

If you can't make your opinion felt without resorting to these personal attacks, then you'll likely be met with suspension, or banning.

All the best,

Ed

This Referendum issue is sort of like a math/maths class: It has created quite a division amongst you, and the gap is multiplying daily with the addition of acrimonious remarks which is really subtracting from the quality of the site.

That's one syllable too many.

Settle down you lot or your all off to the naughty step !

Is mikey playing the man now?
Re bazwillrun's concern at 17:15 ("and those on the mainly left can carry on with the insults that they usually chuck around... ")

I read Ed's message as being a reminder to all of us and not just to those with a particular political viewpoint so this shouldn't be an issue.
Darn, took me two posts worth to recall how syllable was spelt.

Please bear in mind Mikey all I have done is to ask you a civilised question.
Could have been worse Geezer, you could have typo'd syllabub.
I've got a good recipe for raspberry syllabub, very good for healing differences apparently.....
I think we need to clarify what is meant by a 'personal attack'. If I were to call another Aber a numpty then that is clearly personal and worthy of removal. If I were to call Johnson/Gove/ Corbyn/Abbott a numpty that is a different matter.
I took it to mean personal attacks on others on here as part of the 'debating' process. In terms of comments on politicians etc I assume the Ed would only be concerned if the comments were potentially defamatory
Ohh I don't know. Surely the Ed is only concerned if the comment is libellous.
That is my point. 'Friends of jihad' and 'traitors to Britain are not in my book personal attacks when referring to outside organisations.
so have the alans been been un brahmsed then?
what does that mean ^
LOL @ TTT. You're never going to get an avatar back at this rate.
Get with it, DTC! Have the (Alan Whickers) knickers been un (Brahms and Listzed) twisted.
I am presuming that no one now has their nickers in a twist dear boy.^^
My auto correct is taking the k(iss) now.

the light-bulb dimly flickers on, jackdaw....
well I'm off down the kermit for a clap in the rub. On my way home I'm having a ruby before I get a sherbet back to the cat.
