Mrs May has played a fairly canny game here.

She was in the REMAIN camp, although we hardly saw her at all. She has stayed out of the childish name calling and yah-boo politics that is the inevitable product of our public schools system.

She has remained reasonably aloof from the nastier cut and thrust of party politics. She has also shown that there can be an iron fist inside her velvet glove, when the need arises.

Her only real opponent over the next few days and weeks would appear to be Gove, and as he has shown himself to be weak and indecisive, as well as an irritant to the Party, it would seem safe to assume that Mrs May has the best chance of being Britain's second woman PM.

As a Labour supporter, I don't really want to intrude on private grief, but as long as its not Gove, I don't really mind who it is. That face aches to be smacked !

I'm not a Tory voter or supporter, but the best I can see out of the ones standing for leadership is Theresa May. I hope she gets the job. The others are all no-marks.

Look at the people who support May, arch Europhiles. Gove, who I like, has pledged to keep Osborne as chancellor, which I don't like.
Unless the Conservatives want to gift millions of their voters to UKIP, they have to go for Leadsom. (who I fancy a bit)

It may be my memory but it seems that is always the case regarding new leader elections. Some compromise candidate who is second choice for all gets in and I say, "Who ?". Just this time it's the party in government so they become PM.
