...says world-leading air crash investigator, Larry Vance. An Australian-led search for the missing jet has focused on an area of the ocean floor 2,000km (1,242 miles) off Australia's west coast. The zone was selected based on the theory the flight was running on autopilot after veering off course. But an official co-ordinating the search effort told 60 Minutes the wreckage could be outside that search zone, if someone had been in control of the plane when it crashed.

When you fly somewhere you take on enough fuel to get you to the destination plus extra for diversions and go arounds. I find it hard to believe that the Captain could have taken on so much fuel that he could have flown for hours and hours beyond the time taken to get to his destination

^^ I have just said the aircraft had 3 people on the flight deck not 2 as on an 'inland' flight like the German Wings plane.
I just can't see how all three plus the rest of the crew could not do something in the time that they had. This will remain one of the world's greatest mysteries. As the story says the plane probably broke into over 2 million pieces so we are never going to find anything more.

Really? It`s only a 5 hour flight which doesn`t require 3 crew unless it`s a training flight.

It was a 'Transoceanic' flight, as far as I was aware they need 3 on the flight deck.Two pilots and an engineer / navigator. You may well know better , if so I accept your greater knowledge.

Just seen this. Eddie- flight engineers. That takes me back. They went out with the Ark (and the 747 200 series.) An extinct species.
