What we don't need or want is a bunch of right wing nationalists coming to Nottingham to sow discontent and hatred.
Nottingham has a Labour council which does a great job looking after all residents. The use of the phrase "Left Wing" is such an obvious and rather sad attempt to demonise the council. Are you a Daily Mail reader by any chance?

Further to my previous comment: Every summer the council in Nottingham turns the Market Square (where the demo was to take place) into the Nottingham Beach and market. This is very popular with families and there would be a lot of children about and it, no doubt, their safety that is being considered.
"EDL March" and "Peaceful" is a dilly of an oxymoron and should never exist in the same sentence, EVER!
It's the same old same old, young and old tattooed skinheaded masked thugs drunk and high on drugs looking for trouble.
I just hope that the new Elite team of police are there to be ready to bring instant justice to those that want to befoul Nottinghams good name.

Opposing groups have every right to turn up voicing their opposition and I'm pretty sure we can all guess who'd put the boot in first if anything kicked off.

From what I can gather, the EDL have advised that they plan a 'protest', rather than a 'march' and the difference between them is important.
A protest is a static situation, and will be far more easily contained and require a smaller police contingent to manage it.
A march is more problematic, and will cause issues in terms of keeping the EDL and oppositions apart should things get heated.
In a democracy, the right to peaceful protest is available to everyone - it would not be legal, or indeed moral, to ban EDL opposition simply on the basis that it removes the potential for violence.
The responsibility for proper behaviour at its protest lodges with the EDL hierarchy, not with opposition or the police.

In an ideal world, the anti Nazi protesters would stay away. Instead, members of the EDL would field civilised questions from members of the public about their aims and objectives, and how they intend to further their laudable objectives of love, peace (and getting rid of 'jihad' of course)
And at the end everyone would go home hopefully wiser. One way or another.
