Fatal Accident On Train

Today a train passenger has died because he stuck his head out of the window and was struck by an oncoming train. A shocking tragedy.

As a child I was warned about this but didn't really believe it would ever happen. However, it was enough to make sure I never do so when the train is moving.

This accident was obviously preventable by restricting the opening of the window. Many hotels and high rise buildings already do this to prevent 'jumpers' and inquisitive children coming to harm. My question is - should train companies make sure train windows can't open more than a few inches?

If you the tracks 20 miles apart, there will always be some idiot to find some way to act stupid.
There was a man in our unit, whose party trick, was to climb out the train window, and go across the roof, and in the other side, I'll let you guess what happened to him, low bridge comes to mind.

the victim in this case WAS NOT struck by an oncoming train but was leaning from a window on the nearside of the train, and came into contact with an object or structure at the lineside, somewhere between balham and wandsworth common. despite an extensive search it has not been possible to determine the exact site of the incident.

Many deaths have been recorded involving trains, the first I understand was a person run over by a train in the times of a man walking in front with a red flag.

I've literally this evening found out that my friends husband actually worked with the poor victim

Poor man made a mistake, and tragically paid the price. Comments about him being stupid etc............not very helpful to his family and friends

He was my friends hubbys apprentice at the rail company and he said he was the lovliest cheerful guy you could ever meet. His nickname was Smiler
