What a mess , grass fires are always possible in this heat if people are careless.
Question Author
.....yes and smokers are always careless, they always throw their disgusting residue on the floor, look at any smoking area, pig sty.
Well, you seem to speak for every smoker you know but you don't speak for me - I am not and never have been careless in my smoking habits.
as a one time motorbiker, i hate it when people throw butts out of the window of their car. I once got nearly blinded as i had an open-fce helmet at the time :(
Question Author
well you must be the only one mamy, you want to see our smoking areas at work, they have big bins etc that smokers seem very much against using so they like a pig sty.

I find it very hard to believe I'm the only careful smoker.

Bednobs, yes I've had similar happen to me too, some people are unthinking.
Smoking is one of the biggest causes of accidental fires, this is nothing new.
Grass goes up easily this weather. I was using a brazier to burn off some waste wood from the garden recently and twice the nearby grass caught and I had to dowse it. Hadn't realised how keen grass is to light !
Not just grass fires, smoking is easily the largest cause of accidental fires

It is also the main cause of fire deaths in the home.

With 3 house fires a day in London caused by smoking.
Boomtown!!? Take it from me they were not smoking regular ciggies!! Probably off their tiny minds on "mandy bombs" and god knows what else. Surprised we don't see more of it at festivals. Just because you work with scruffy careless pigs 3T, I will thank you not to tar the rest of us with the same brush as them. Birds of a feather and all that.
TTT if you look for quotes for home fire insurance you will be quoted a lot more if you say there are smokers in the house, so it already is added to premiums. It is not added to all premiums though, non smokers (over 80% of the population) do not pay it.
In 40 years of insuring my home I have never once been asked if I smoke.
Sorry, you said 'Home fire insurance' - never come across that in a domestic setting.
It's a question on all the quotes I have seen for fire insurance.
What if, like me, you do not smoke in your house Eddie? I never have, even before the pub ban. What about chip pans? Even more dangerous I would think. No one gets covered in hot fat from a ciggie. Unless of course you happen to be with a tiddly overweight smoker(^_*)
Question Author
togo/mamy, forgive me if you are the extremely rare examples of tidy smokers but i just go by every single smoking area I have ever seen, so I'm afraid it's inevitable that you get tarred with their brush. I have never been able to fathom why they throw their butts on the floor when they are standing next to a purpose built bin, perhaps you can start a tidy smoker movement.
Look here about 1/2 way down the page
http://www.gocompare.com/home-insurance/fire/
'All quotes will ask if there are smokers in the house'
Togo it just says 'smokers' no qualifications about where you smoke, as far as insurance is concerned you are either a smoker or a non smoker.
But say you do not smoke and then have a claim where there is proof that smoking started the fire and you will find your claim voided.
^^ The link even says that to claim you do not smoke to get a cheaper premium when you do smoke is fraud and will lead to 'difficulties in a claim'
Then do forgive me 3T, if I tar you with the same brush you used to call our co-workers careless pigs. Do you ever point it out to them? Plus what the hell are you doing , being such a zealous anti smoking evangelist, in the smoking area? Is that where the witty and carefree souls congregate? If you don't point out to the porcine disgusting smokers around you, that they revolt you, could I ask why. Or is it easier to vent over a keyboard?
