Surely a parent should have reported a 7yr old missing by now?

Perhaps driving a van ? Aside from the left bike is there a reason to assume foul play
My thoughts exactly.Something doesn't seem right here.!!
Perhaps it was his parents?
Perhaps they had been out looking for him and found him riding a bicycle which wasn't his somewhere beyond a boundary they had set?

There's no harm in being vigilant but no need to start criticising anyone just yet...

I remember watching a programme on TV. I think it was Wire in the Blood where a girl was snatched off the street and later a girls matching her di scripting was found dead.

It turned out that the parent 'snatched his daughter as she was bunking off school and the dead girl was an unrelated event.

However in this case they have the van details but the owner has been ruled out. Cloning of numberplates perhaps or something else going on?
Possibly.......or not........
Maybe he isn't missing. The person who took him may have been his parent for all we know.
I saw this blown up in the Mail.

Until a child is reported missing, it is a non story.

My first thought was Gypsies, judging by the van.
It does seem an odd set-up.

Hopefully the background and resolution will be revealed soon.
I agree with Gromit - my first thought was travellers as well. Never mind the bike - they can always nick another one. (waits for incoming)
If the child hasn't been reported missing I can only imagine that his parents know who he's with. If that's the case, they really ought to inform the police.
Possible scanario - traveller kid on stolen bike strayed too far from home so rounded up by family/friends. Left the bike behind. Family wouldn`t tell the police that it`s their kid because travellers won`t have any dealings with the police and the bike was stolen so don`t want to be connected with it (there have been a spate of bikes stolen from garages by travellers round here over the last couple of weeks so it`s not impossible)
*scenario*
237SJ, sounds feasible.
Unless the person who reported it is making it all up just for attention? It does happen.
As some has already said, if no child has been reported missing, then it would seem safe to say that no crime has been committed.

How anybody can conclude, that it must be travellers, just because a van was seen is beyond me.
Because anyone else would have the nous to contact the police and let them know the child was safe.
Perhaps they don't know that something has been reported "wrong" in the first place Jack.

I meet people all the time, who never watch the news or read a paper.
They are now saying that the bike is unconnected, which, to me, sounds like the boy had it, and parents or guardians told them to leave it.
and THAT black van wasnt the one they wanted
it was another one

I agree odd, very odd,
and want to know the back-story ....
