I see where they are coming from but as soon as you start restricting treatment based on the "self inflicted" parameter you pretty soon find you can apply that to almost everything.

If there are legitimate medical reasons not t treat that is one thing, but the idea of saving money by picking on one aspect because they can is unacceptable. Large and small all pay into the system and should expect the same treatment for their needs.

One would hope that the victims have an opportunity to sue for denial of the medical service they've paid for.
Agree 100% OG !
BMI is not reliable.
Question Author
who mentioned BMI?
It may just be the article writer but :

"Body mass index (BMI) is used to calculate whether a person is underweight, a healthy weight, overweight or obese for their height"
The BBC link did TTT ::::

"The restrictions will apply to patients with a body mass index of 30 or above which indicates obesity, as well as smokers".
The article says this:

"The restrictions will apply to patients with a body mass index of 30 or above which indicates obesity, as well as smokers."

I don't give a rats behind what measure they use, this is not about that this is about the idea that treatment is in some way restricted to those based on some arbitrary measure. Do not try and divert this thread with irrelevancy.
TTT....you asked a question and we answered it!

This is about money, not whether some people are fat or not. As a person who is not slim, I think its a bloody cheek to deny service to those that have done their share of paying for the last 45 years.
Yes Sir !
Ok...so what is mentioned in the article is not relevant? That makes sense...
Often it is having painful knees or hips which causes, through restricted mobility, weight-issues in the first place.

how long before you will be too old to treat too......... slippery road to private health care. sickening
" The NHS is safe with us "
///" The NHS is safe with us " ///
......sayeth all flavour of Politicians....

Well, in a week that has seen the announcement of planned strikes by Doctors, and now this, is the NHS safe any longer ?
TTT,
I gather you are a motorcyclist. A very dangerous persuit which greatly increases your risk of an accident. You wouldn't deny an injured motorcyclist tratment, so why fat people, smokers, drug users?
