It’s not a matter of luck. The UK (and most of Western Europe) is a stable and settled area because of the efforts of the present generation and their forebears. Instead of *** off elsewhere they remained and developed their countries and addressed the problems (such as disease and wars) as they arose. England was a pretty grim place 500 years ago and it has taken all of that time to turn it into a developed nation with, by and large, law and order and a civilised environment. I don’t thank my luck for my situation, I thank my ancestors, both immediate and more distant and I don’t want to share my agreeable situation for which they worked so hard with people who don’t like it too much where they are.
People in the UK who are eager to share the fruits of my ancestors’ labours with every waif and stray who pitches up on our shores should not be so generous without asking. And they most certainly should not attempt to make me feel guilty for things over which I have no control and which should be addressed by the people affected.

Naomi and some others may not be moved at all by the sight of the life jackets or presumably by pictures of washed up bodies.
I can see why many may have no sympathy for adults (and young men do seem to be the in the majority on these boats/dinghies) who choose to make the journey knowing the risks, and maybe not also for those who are gullible enough to be duped by people traffickers who take the money and promise a safe journey and a prosperous future in Europe. I can even see that a few sinking boats may deter others and may discourage others from making the same perilous journey.
Many may feel ambivalent about those who feel forced to flee a conflict zone and make the journey since we may feel they should stay and sort the problems out or should try their luck elsewhere in Africa/Middle East. We can't sort all the world's problems out for them (in fact we often make things worse- see Iraq, Libya, etc).
But what about young children who are put on boats by parents, maybe with their parents, maybe not. Does anyone here not feel moved or feel no sympathy at all for those young children who have been made to suffer the ordeal of drowning?
I am not saying we should let them all in- we should stop the boats getting into the Med and we should be focussing on stopping the traffickers operating- but that shouldn't stop people feeling sorry for some of those who have died and raising awareness for something to be done to save lives. They may be misguided in their good intentions but at least they care for fellow humans.

Their plight is the fault of their parents. Apart from anything else they were foolish to conceive children in such dire circumstances. The situations in the places they originate from have not developed overnight. In the same way as I'm benefitting from the endeavours of my ancestors, the hapless children are suffering from the endeavours of theirs. Life's a bit tough sometimes.

Of course people are appalled when innocent children, who have no choice in the matter, drown – and none more than me – but for the benefit of our future must be realistic and we must be honest. We cannot afford to allow our hearts to rule our heads. Look at the result of that in Germany. Most of the people boarding those boats are not fleeing for their lives – they are young, healthy men, most of whom are economic migrants - and some of whom, I’ve no doubt, intend us harm. This situation is unsustainable.
Of course people are appalled when innocent children, who have no choice in the matter, drown – and none more than me – but for the benefit of our future must be realistic and we must be honest. The problem on here is that if you state you find something thought provoking or express some sympathy or empathy for the plight of some you then get the backlash.
This can take the form of witty (well not really) titles - you know the ones - or protests that you're not giving away everything my ancestors have worked for etc.
Regards the OP, these weren't litter louts, they had permission and we still haven't had the proof that none of them have jobs either.

There's nothing to stop a Charity from seeking permission to do just that.
