one of the factors in this call is her questioning of why world holocaust day isn't more wide ranging. whilst such a move - if made - would probably dilute the original meaning of the memorial, times change, definitions change; would it be so wrong to commemorate the victims of all genocide - and include Darfur, Rwanda, Srebrenica, etc - rather than just the one event, awful though it was?

The UK Holocaust memorial day is in fact also a remembrance of other genocide events such as Dafur and Rwanda.

It wouldn’t be wrong to commemorate other atrocities – all utterly appalling – and if that’s an understatement it’s only because words cannot suffice - but it would be wrong to group them together with the Holocaust, surely the darkest day the ‘civilised’ world has known?

The trouble with attempting to be 'oh so right on pc' is that real discrimination and bigotry can be missed in the clamour to be 'progressive' and the effort to teach us bigoted, closed minded racists what we should be thinking and doing.

Forget numbers of victims. That is just smoke and mirrors to the issue of was it right to say change the day to include all haolocaust victims.

On the one hand I think it is right. As we now remember all our war dead and the sacrifices made in conflict we should remember all those that have died by the hands of tyrants and megalomaniacs etc.

That is a complete reversal of the events... Jackie Walker was questioning why Holocaust Memorial Day could not be opened to all people (i.e. more than Jews) and the audience responded that it already is.
