Several solfiers have died in training exercises during hot weather, should they have been weeded out earlier?
I made a bet with myself that 'this' would be your first post of the day......I was nearly right.

///According to figures released at the time of Mr Bojang’s claim earlier this year, at least 450 Commonwealth soldiers have suffered cold injuries in the past decade.
A NFCI comes about when the core temperature of the body remains below its natural level for a long period of time.///

So it seems that it is not uncommon. Perhaps that Army does need to look at quite how these injuries can be limited?

The article doesn't mention who is paying for the legal expenses. Do you know?

gets a bit nippy round the brecons without a scarf ...
Ahhh but Corby I can bet they were not of an ethnic group that Mr AOG has on his hate list!
He posted a similar Question earlier this year, http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1486413.html
Ethnicity has nothing to do with it. The human body suffers in extreme heat and cold conditions regardless of bithplace.
In 2014 we had 3 soldier deaths on the Brecon Beacons and in July this year another fatality.
Soldiers should be trained, but not to the point of death or permanent injury. It is clear neglect.

Racial raw nerves are touched once again.

Reminder: please check on the subject's ethnicity, before daring to enter up the report for debate, because if the subject is of a non white ethnicity it will certainly offend, and attract criticism.

On the other hand one should not ignore the fact that we live in a multi ethnic society, and persons of all colours should be included, all in the pursuit of diversity.

I have no idea (can only guess) what ethnic group you belong to, but if you wish me to add you to this no existent hate list, then I can always start one, with you having the honour to be first on the list.
“But despite his diagnosis he was still required to parade, ‘required to work in open, cold garages’, and carry out guard duties in the open air.”

Later he said “Everything is with the lawyers. I have an anxiety issue so can’t speak to you.”

Poor thing. Sounds like just the sort of chap we need to yomp across foreign lands to engage with the enemy. If he managed to get to his rendezvous without freezing he may be a little anxious when he arrived.

There’s an old put-down among service bods (which I’m sure Baldric will confirm) which goes “If you can’t take a joke you shouldn’t have joined”. Mr Rawlings seems not to have come across it. Fortunately his inability to cope with harsh conditions was discovered before he was sent on operations where his need for a hot water bottle may have jeopardised the safety of his comrades. He is now, apparently, “studying at university” so it is fairly certain who is meeting the bill for his “legal team”. At 33 he really needs to find himself a job (in the warm, of course).

NJ, happy to confirm that, I guess I was lucky in that I could take a joke.
People are individuals and react differently.

Soldiers must be trained to meet ANY eventuality.Being on active service is not the time to discover that you do not like the cold.

Quite. The time to discover this is during training, which is the case here. However, I don't think that means that anyone should be subject to NFCIs in establishing that.

Be careful judge, you are not suggesting, "back from whence he came" are you.
Looks like that page was typed up in a white out blizzard Mamy.
Ahh it is reading now Mamy. I think there was a crash and I was only getting a blank page.

Perhaps The Army Should Be More Careful Who They Allow In Their 'men's' Army?
