Teaching kids a bit of self-respect can't be bad. PC is preventing youth from doing much else than play computer games. life skills and knowledge once passed on via the sea and army cadets, and the scout movement stays with a person for life.
I think it's a great idea, I don't know what andy and mikey would teach, probably some insipid version of cultural relativism i.e. all cultures and belief systems are equally valid and no one must be better than anyone else at anything.
In some schools, on sports day kids are encouraged to cross the winning line holding hands, so "they ALL win". As the Donald says, 'Gimmee a break'!

Good. Mikey, I've never felt the slightest inkling to disparage or slaughter anybody who disagrees with my religious views. I rather think that it depends on the religion. Most schools teach comparative religion these days, which is, I think, essential. When I got roped into teaching R.E., it comprised Christianity, Islam, Judaeism and smaller units of Hinduism, Jainism, Bhuddism etc., as well as more thought-provoking challenges such as those brought by Amnesty Int..

Anyway, I'm glad to return to O.P. and declare my agreement with the policy.

Laudable Jordain, the World problem right now is that certain religions actually see that attitude as the only one.

Togo- I don't rule out that my views may have to change, much as I would not wish them to. I just wish that others held the same viewpoint. I can see that we are being forced into possibly adopting a more muscular stance and will accept that.

In my opinion, once you start to dig a little deeper in any religion, especially the more modern, loony-tune ones, like Scientology and Mormonism, they quickly collapse into complete disarray.

But if others want to believe in these things, its OK with me.

I knew a girl that was completely out of control and was a handful at home and in the community committing various acts of anti-social behaviour.

She joined up with the Army Cadets where she became transformed. She learned all about the kind of things that Divebuddy mentioned including the one big thing that she lacked - discipline.

I think Fallon's idea is commendable. It's very easy for some to dismiss it but for many youths it is a form of controlled empowerment which should serve them very well in various forms of life skills.

Amazingly, you are partly right.

I do believe that all cultures are equally valid - don't you? Or is it just cultures that you approve of that get to deserve to live, and the others need to die? Do you know what that makes you sound like? Well, you are fond of your 'superior' intellect, I am sure you can work it out.

As for belief systems being valid?

Personally I think that they are all equally invalid.

But that’s just my opinion, I am not such a Nazi as to think that I have a right to tell everyone else what they should or should not believe.
