Surely you need to be young to be a chav for a start?
Sorry if I come across as snobby. I come from a working class family. We are definitely not chavs. I agree with belladonner.

Same here, Clover.
By the way, I was once on benefits as a single mother, but I wasn't a chav then, either.
well Bristol Uni is wrong then.
oh a "Equality, Liberation and Access Officer” says it....then of course it must be right!
Cultural misappropriation is the current go to phrase, apparently if I make spag bol I am guilty as I'm not Italian. Where does that leave Yorkshire puddings, I'm a Lancastrian? Hopefully they'll invent another buzz word soon.
No, I don't think they are. The term "Chav" is used only as a term of abuse, whereas Working Class is not.
I always think of Katie Price as a chav.
It might help here, to understand how the Oxford English Dictionary defines the word "Chav" :::::::

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav

I am not sure about Katie Price, ( is she the one with the large chest ! )
but Vicky Pollard always seems the very embodiment of Chav :::

I used to be working class till my recent retirement and, as I dont own a single Burberry item, I dont think I was ever chav material.
Yes Vicky Pollard is definitely a chav.
At least we agree about one thing then hereIam !
Chav = Council House And Violent. Not my words and not my thoughts, I was brought up in a council house, but not violent.
no I'd say chav and non working class are synonymous.
Another group of people that we cant poke fun at.

\\The Bristol University Cheerleading Society was set to host a chav night, but one of the cheerleaders complained that the theme could be seen as an appropriation of working class culture.//

I bet shes a barrel of laughs.

I live in Bristol and ive no doubt that the student will be behaving like chavs every weekend, getting very drunk and generally mis-behaving.

Dave.
