Well, perhaps they should be encouraged to! Don't get me wrong, I used to drive through the road nightmare to the NEC several times a year and I dislike the place intensely. But if HS2 is to be of any use whatsoever then it will provide a fast link to London. Believe it or not there are also plenty of other desirable business destinations such as Manchester, Leeds or even Birmingham.
PS No-one up North who I have spoken to wants HS2. We'd all much rather that our basic infrastructure was repaired and expanded. The A64 desperately needs to turn into a dual carriageway throughout its length for a starter. It grinds to a halt and is the major transport artery E/W.

if they're just connecting, does it matter where they do it? If you're giong from NY to Dubai and you don't actually want to get off in London, is there any special reason to use Heathrow?
Jourdain, I assume the purpose of HS2 is to get Londoners to consider moving their businesses north, rather than get northernish folk down to London. A bit of decentralisation would move some of the spotlight away from London, and no bad thing. But I appreciaate many would prefer an HS3 linking up cities in the middle of England.

Suggestions I've heard on the news is that if they do they may be held up in the courts for years.
Any highly populated area is a poor choice for an airport. Folk have a right to decent living conditions and continually expanding one making things deteriorate over time, is bound to be an issue.
They need to find a new location with good links all over the country. Folk seem to be too Londoncentric anyway. A hub can be anywhere. Holidaymakers don't want to trek all the way to London anyway. There is capacity already for businessfolk who need to be in London in person and for whom electronic communication is not an acceptable alternative.
