IMHO no ex political person should be involved in the BBC.

We have known for years that the BBC lean towards the liberal left agenda.

Yet another piece of recent proof was the way they pixculated the faces of the so called child refugees.

They alone did it, why?

I listened to a good discussion on this last week on the radio. Very balanced :-)

The criticism is a bit ironic, given Whittingdale, a Tory, had considerable clout over the BBC's future when he was culture secretary (as was only right, although of course there were many including me who thought the "clout" might turn out to be a well aimed blow)

I suppose a precedent was set when Lord Patten (ex-Conserverative Minister) joined the BBC 2011-14.

Purnell was a ToryLite MP. He resigned his Ministerial post hoping to bring down Brown. But no one took any notice.

YMb......we don't all know anything of the sort. I have heard John Humphrys give politicians on both sides of the house a hard time, on many occasions.

As Gromit has already said, I seem to remember that a certain ex-MP for Bath, a Mr, now Lord Pattern was made Chairman of the BBC when he returned from Hong Kong, so thats your theory down the Swanee then !

Yes, I read you post and I don't agree.

I can't think of any reason whatsoever, why a retired politician can't hold any post at the BBC.
