What is the main concern here- the fact that a large family is given a house they could never afford themselves or the fact that the the house is going to a family who weren't born here but are clearly playing the system to something they are entitled to here but wouldn't get in their own country.

Don't go worrying yourself 1rovert, Britain is sound asleep and has been since the end of WW2.

Britain likes to appear on the World stage as how very tolerant and understanding it is, even to the extent of ignoring the plight of it's own people.

But is Johnny Foreigner at all impressed????

No, he just considers us to be a very soft touch and one he can screw as much as he likes.
Could not have put it better AOG.
Totally agree with you 1rovert. Maddening in the extreme !

fiction-factory, //the house is going to a family who weren't born here but are clearly playing the system //

That's the bit that bothers me.
But even they seem to be entitled to it as they are classed as European despite their colour. This case was discussed at length. the real questions should be about whether he is employed or being trained by the health service and why they could just pass on the tab for his expenses of bringing his family here
'Entitled'. Yes, there's that word again.
Yes. That's the rules. We would be entitled to benefits if we went to Germany, France etc. Lot of entitlements exist -child benefit for any parent born here or not, free health care even if you have never worked in your life, benefits for the disabled- are all those entitlements to be treated with disdain too, naomi?
fiction-factory, // We would be entitled to benefits if we went to Germany, France etc. //

This has been discussed here before. We would not be entitled to claim benefits with the same ease that non-nationals claim benefits here. That's why so many want to come here.
I echo Naomi (having lived in France).
Isn't that just because our benefits -for indigenous and incomers- are more generous than those of other countries. Are you saying they have different rules for immigrants than for home grown claimants in Germany etc? If so, I don't see why Cameron had to seek permission from EU to make Poles etc wait longer
A link was posted on here not too long ago. Apparently Germany has the most generous benefits system.
ff - I'm thinking about a chap whose family I knew. He was a builder (a roofer to be specific) with a wife and 2 small children. They'd been out there (France)about 18 mths. when he fell off a roof, was quite badly injured, and his family were ignored. Concerted effort by ex-pat group (who had integrated and spoke French) eventually managed to sort it out in that his wife became entitled to the weekly hand-out at the Mairie (flour, pasta rice etc..) otherwise, until then, she was relying on the ex-pat community. She baked cakes, did anything to survive, but times were very tough until he could return to work. They had no other financial help and built up more of a debt on their house. Eventually, after a couple of very hard years, things returned to an even keel.

I am very, very cross to read about this family being given so much for nothing.
Ummmm,//A link was posted on here not too long ago. Apparently Germany has the most generous benefits system.//

But incomers to Germany cannot claim benefits immediately.
