Who knows why they're banning it. They probably wanted a backhander from the charity and didn't get one.
I can see a legitimate reason for not wanting them though, and similar to the newsreader's reasoning in jno's link, it's because there are thousands of equally deserving charities out there and if you allow one preference then all the others will be demanding the same access, so the footballers would be decked out with all manner of ribbons, flowers, wristbands and logos every week.
To avoid any of the resulting nonsense and bitching from charities who didn't get a look in you have to blanket ban the lot.
