It obviously isn't a political statement. FIFA is a corrupt bunch of to55errz.

Who knows why they're banning it. They probably wanted a backhander from the charity and didn't get one.

I can see a legitimate reason for not wanting them though, and similar to the newsreader's reasoning in jno's link, it's because there are thousands of equally deserving charities out there and if you allow one preference then all the others will be demanding the same access, so the footballers would be decked out with all manner of ribbons, flowers, wristbands and logos every week.

To avoid any of the resulting nonsense and bitching from charities who didn't get a look in you have to blanket ban the lot.
I can hardly believe that some have brought Burkas and Veils into this? Really? Honestly?

As far as people being castigated for not wearing a Poppy, that is as bad as forbidding it to be worn in my book.
Oh no they can't........ They might get stabbed by the wee pins.

Ludwig, //To avoid any of the resulting nonsense and bitching from charities who didn't get a look in you have to blanket ban the lot. //

That sounds reasonable. They'd have been wiser to say 'no charity symbols' rather than give the reason they've given.
Noticed not many have gone to the trouble of altering their avatars so as to incorporate the poppy.

why perhaps many do not feel the need to?

Maybe that a ban on religious symbols has also been mentioned by FIFA?
Was that why they mentioned it, righto.
I don't think any of the England or Scotland players wear burkas anyroad mams.
Not that I've noticed but the sun may have been in my eyes.
Naomi // That sounds reasonable. They'd have been wiser to say 'no charity symbols' rather than give the reason they've given. //

Exactly. Claiming it's political is just nonsense.

it would hinder our ability to deal with set pieces.
I think they take a penalty though ? !!!!
If they don't want religious, political or commercial symbols surely they don't want players praying and thanking God after scoring a goal?
Get them back to hugging and kissing For Funks Sake
What would be a commercial symbol? A tick as used by Nike or the word adidas often found on footballers' shirts.
Why were the footballers wearing shirts with Breast Cancer Care in support of the charity if the poppy banned for advertising..........a charity? England v Holland March this year.
Personally I think if the lads want to wear poppies they should and if FiFa want to fine then or deduct points whell thats hard luck.
Lashing out during Prime Minister’s Question Time in the House of Commons, she added that FIFA – which has been dogged by corruption scandals – should “sort their own house out” rather than interfering with a British tradition.
