This is very sad news indeed.....Cohen seems to have been around for my entire life.

I can recall exactly where I was when I first heard " Bird on a Wire" and then buying the LP, also a book of his poetry.

Goodness...don't know what else to say.

Apologies Mikey, misread the post,

The RIP still stands.

Hit submit too soon, I have asked for it to be removed
Wonders if new judge lives in a cave....
No disrespect nj. But do you live in total isolation? You never recognise an yone it would seem. Its a pity you never knew the greatness of LC.
NJ - surely you heard this as it was all over the place when released post her win on ITV.

Alexandra Burke's version was a travesty.
Baldric, totally agree with you.

New Judge, please listen to Cohen's version as posted by Murraymints at 06.58am on this thread.
And given that these singers are all Canadian, perhaps the most relevant honour tonight to the legacy that LC leaves behind.....

Mikey forget about the removed post, not worthy of discussion.
Just remember that, everything being equal, Cohen got his author's royalties - from whatever version and Burke went high up the charts.
Just been listening to 'Let it be your will'..
Mmmmm, drifted away..
Alexandra leaving is probably one the finest songs written, try the version with the co-writer Sharon Robinson.

It was still a travesty.
nj, it was alleged that during Arsenal's worse periods, fans would listen to Cohen's songs to cheer themselves up. Still, it's a shame you never managed to listen to them when he was around, just so you could make your own mind up while it was still relevant.
this one?

why Baldric - because she turned up the emotional element of it? Why? I'm interested to hear our Melody Maker's criticism of it rather than some flat platitude.
Yes DT,
Saw him do this on his last tour it's exceptional, the man could reach places in you that you did not know other people experienced.

Just my opinion DT, is there a problem?
No problem - I just think that you are being unfair to the strength of the song presented in so many ways, a testament to the brilliance of LC. I suppose that you think this one is 'too highly strung' - but that, perhaps, would be a tad unfair.
