It was not in 'open sea' it was the Straights of Dover the most overcrowded shipping lane in the world !
yup, even without the weather its a nasty place to navigate.

OK so it wasn't hundreds of square miles it was a 200metre ship and a barge full of rocks...still a pretty unfortunate collision in 'quite a lot of water', don't you think....

Yes, it was unlucky - don`t listen to the Googlers
Question Author
OK what ever the circumstances don't you think it's an unlucky break
Enough sea in that picture to frighten the living daylights out of me janzman.
Yeah that's right, don't listen to the googlers, you know, those who've actually presented some facts to show what a busy place the Dover Straits are. Sheesh.
collisions are unfortunate...all collisions but unlucky......well I’d like to see the MAIB report before commenting.
ZM - I have have sailed many a Beneteau around the Solent so I do have some idea of what I am talking about. Do you?
Are you regretting posting this jazzman;-).
It's about the time to wish you hadn't bothered isn't it?
When I learnt to sail I was told that if you can sail in the Solent, you can sail anywhere. That still stands.
Why were you told that 237?
Because I had a good teacher ZM
a RYA teacher
I have travelled through the Channel many times on many sizes of commercial shipping. You don’t want to know what seafarers say about yacht sailors.

I seriously don't follow the world in which you live, but then I'm not in your clique am I. I think I'll dip in and out as is wanted if thats ok with you
were the crews stoned?
No, I meant why were you told that if you could sail the Solent you could sail anywhere?
