I would suggest that it is unthinkable that the UK would not invite an elected President of the U.S. for a state visit at the earliest opportunity. The continuity concerns the alliances between the two nations, not the credentials of the individuals holding office at the time.

Indeed they did. But that was before he was elected as the next President. People in the UK (including our MPs) need to understand that whomsoever the good citizens of the USA choose as their President is none of our business. Similarly it was none of Mr Obama's business how we voted in the referendum. His "back of the queue" remark was clearly made in an attempt to influence the way people voted and was out of order.
The UK (the Queen and the government) will afford Mr Trump all the facilities and invitations any President of the USA would get and to think otherwise is ridiculous.
