Trump's utterances were based on what he thought the electorate wanted to hear, and it worked for him.
^Quite right.
That^ was to ichkeria - but it could apply to your post too Danny. All politicians, without exception, make what they think are the right noises.

Danny....09:30....you are right...he told them the lies that they wanted to hear, and they therefore voted for him accordingly....voted for him on a false premise.
so you want Hilary in jail mikey? It's not up to the President anyway, the US has a process to determine guilt through the courts, they don't jail by presidential decree, it ain't Rhodesia, F/F\S! It was just pre fight rhetoric, you must have noticed a change of tone since the election.

icheria....bluster ?...they came over as promises to me....promises he made time and time again....lies he made time and time again.
Mikey, I think you're losing the plot.
Thing is mikey it may have sounded like a 'promise' but it's not up to Trump to put anyone in jail. What worries me more is that he is the sort of person who says ridiculous things. I hope the 'Lock her up' morons are now beginning to realise this
In the UK you do not vote for a party but a representative for your constituency. If you take note of the party a candidate is a member of when coming to a decision, then that's your personal choice. Thus UKIP did not get 4M votes, candidates who had joined their party and stood under their name did, between them. And fair enough, only in one constituency did the candidate with largest number of votes cast for them happen to be a UKIP member, who was duly declared their representative.

In the Presidential election the situation differs in that the whole nation is voting for their choice of the same group of candidates; so what part of the nation they reside in should not effect anything. It's like being in one big nationwide constituency. That it does matter is difficult to defend.

As for Trump, it's not overly surprising that he has been dropping the more extreme promises. In the case of Clinton, since the authorities claim insufficient evidence so far, Trump would look a fool spending a fortune on something that no longer gains him anything and would waste tax dollars and show him as being just vindictive when nothing came of it. He would need further evidence to come to light without spending a fortune on an investigation hoping to find some, if he wanted to proceed.

Icheria....they sounded like promises because that is exactly what they were....lies and promises in other words. But the numbskulls that voted for him believed him.

He will be along with another U-turn soon I expect !
.....relax mikey, have a punnet, lay back.......drift off to 1997.....Tony is in

Og....this strange notion that people vote for people and not Parties has been aired on here before, but I don't believe a word of it. Its counter intuitive to say the least.

if it were true, all voters would know the name of their candidate of choice before voting and would still remember it now. But sadly that isn't true.

Most people go into the Polling booth looking for the Party name, not the candidates name, and that is the sad truth, and in a FPTP system, that is what wins Elections.

Like you, I am not remotely surprised that most of Trumps pre-election promises are being dumped.....most of them were either impossible, non-constitutional or illegal.

But it was these promises/lies that he was elected on, not what he making up now on the spot, in closed rooms. The American people were lied to and a minority were taken in by the lies.

It is a pity that the candidate known worldwide as 'Honest Hillary' didn't quite get to her promised land.
Talbot, I almost wish she had! At least it would have saved us from this eternal drivel!

You sure about that Naomi?

;o)
There have been a couple of threads about vinyl records on the "bank" lately, you know those outdated information delivery systems. Remember how if they were damaged they would just keep jumping with a click and repeat Ad Nauseam the same few lines over and over until you lifted the stylus?

The Democrats will learn lessons from this debacle, as indeed will the Republicans.

If the Republicans had chosen pretty much anybody else, other then Trump
( like John McCain, eg ) they would almost certainly have won, fair and square, without the interference of the EC.
Baldric, almost. ;o)
Just one of the less than smart things he promised a few more to come yet I think
By the end of this year he will have done so many u turns he'll thi k he has vertigo . !!!
