Yes it is a sad fact that Jo Cox was brutally murdered by a lone Far-Right fanatic, but is there really a rise in Far-Right terrorism in this country to cause concern?

A good question, FF. Why don't you raise it as a thread?

fiction-factory, you agree with me? Well, I’m astounded! But onwards….
//I am not sure why the Labour Party is not more vocal on some of these issues//
Because, like many others throughout the spectrum of political persuasion, they don’t understand Islam, benignly attributing the less savoury aspects to ‘culture’, ‘tradition’ - and sometimes to media propaganda as though it isn't really happening. The majority of Muslims don’t run around in suicide vests but live a peaceful existence and therefore people on the whole think they don’t share the same philosophy as the more openly ‘fundamentalist’ – but they do – because, whether they like it or not, they must. It is not a choice. Islam is not open to criticism and it does not, and cannot, compromise.

I'm not sure that's an accurate assessment.
Fundamentally, for instance on a basic level Christians believe in the same doctrine, but the little old lady who runs a Sunday school in Anglesea and organises the church fete doesn't necessarily align herself to the teachings of Baptist fundamentalists from Louisiana (the 'fire and brimstone' kind).
I don't know how much you've worked in Muslim countries, but my job has me going back and forth to a couple, and what I've observed is that there's a breadth of attitudes, from the liberal to the ultra-conservative.

Naomi, I think people who shout that all muslims are potential terrorists, people like yourself in fact, are more to be feared than the people they are telling us to be in fear of
Do you live in an area where there are a lot of Muslims? I do and I'm nowhere near as scared as you seem to be. I don't seem to find that seething underbelly of hate that the scaremongering press have offered and you and others have swallowed.

No, we don't.
Islamic terrorism has a well-oiled international infrastructure supporting it: it has wealthy governments who fund and arm it (and in many cases house and broadcast its propagandists), and its leaders have proved a lot more astute when it comes to exploiting social divisions in their target countries.
I imagine right wing terrorism is going to become increasingly serious in the next few years, but it's extremely difficult to imagine it ever becoming more of a risk than radical Islamic terrorism. The international infrastructure just isn't there, and they aren't as tactical (at the moment). They are, however, getting increasingly good at 21st century propaganda.

>I have never said all Muslims are a threat
So I am wondering what proportion you think are a threat, naomi? 75%, 25%, 5%, 0.1%
You must feel it is pretty high or you would not keep stating how dangerous the religion is and why you don't want Muslims here.
And the main reason Labour allies itself with Muslims is it guarantees thema very large share of the Muslim vote. There is also a fear on the left- and I have seen the same with supposedly left wing student unions- of being branded as racist if they challenge some of the unsavoury aspects such as the treatment of women

fender62 - //naomi, they dont get it that muslims think of non muslims as kaffir or infidels //
"They"? Who is 'they'?
Could it be the vast majority of the human race who don't walk around trembling and telling anyone who will listen that we are all doomed?
No, 'they' don't get it - because 'they' don't take some sort of moral high ground and shake their heads that they are surrounded by people to dumb to see the 'truth'.
Your sense of paranoia appears only matched by your sense of moral superiority - unwarranted though both of them are.

fiction-factory, I’m not a statistician but I have twice, I think, provided you with a link outlining the results of polls, conducted by reputable sources, that indicate support for extremism in varying degrees is high. Would you like me to post it again?
If you are right about the reason for Labour’s penchant for aligning itself with the Islamic population, and their (and the students’) fear that challenging the more unsavoury aspects of Islam will result in accusations of racism – and I think you probably are - such shallow and cowardly reasoning is clearly devoid of all integrity – and that should seriously concern Labour voters.

Why have you suddenly become so insulting and aggressive towards your fellow ABers?
