This has come up before. A school that receives no public funding but is funded entirely by fees,donations and sponsorship can ONLY be inspected by OFSTED if it actually asks to be inspected. So schools like this are hardly going to ask for an inspection!

Exactly. Open the doors to the same level of scrutiny. Nothing to hide, and confident in the quality of teaching, why would such schools have anything to worry about?

There are numerous international schools in my area including two American schools which follow the US education system for the many US expats allowing their children to follow a familiar curriculum. Do you disagree with that AOG?

Since schools like this are teaching that which is not conducive to integration into western society, they should certainly be investigated, but the fundamental problem emanates from the parents who choose to educate their children in this way. I recall the man who wept on television when his daughter fled to Syria to become a bride of a Jihadist. It transpired that he had attended extremist rallies, so one has to question where children like his are really receiving their education. The education that schools such as this offer is simply an extension of the education the students are receiving at home.

Yes they should be subject to ofsted inspection !! But , for the reason I mentioned in my first answer they do not have to be inspected at all.

I fully agree that ALL schools should be inspected, but the law needs to be changed to force privately funded schools to accept compulsory inspection.
I don't see much hope of it happening though!

I think Naomi's point has relevance as it underlines some parent's mindset. If a parent is attending an extremist rally then it is highly likely that a son/daughter 's views is going to be hardened let alone the school education influences.

I would have thought it obvious. It serves to illustrate that parents, generally, raise their children to believe as they believe. A good example is of those who say their parents/grandparents have always voted Labour and therefore they do the same – regardless of the fact that Labour is now a hopeless case. Parents who send their children to schools like this must want their daughters to be shrouded from the world and they must agree with the education offered. Education beings at home.

Blimey! I agree, what an eye-opener in the areas of Music, Dance, Drama and Art! So much awareness of the various sensitivities recommended. Not much scope for creativity and awareness is there in those areas? Bland and morose springs to mind!

To think, schools for the future. Those percentages of cultural make up will change quickly too..
