Must remember that when some psychotic out of his loaf on bob, kills people.

As a regular ex-user when a student and a young adult, as were 90% of the people I mixed, with I've lost count of the number who became paranoiac or just plain weird from smoking cannabis. It's a far more dangerous drug than it's given credit for and should never be legalised. Don't assume it turns everyone into chilled out fluffy bunnies.

Just trying to remember when a cannabis user last hits the headlines in the UK for going on a killing spree. Nope, can't remember one, don't think it has ever happened.
Alcohol users on the other hand account for dozens of deaths and injuries in their cars.
Perhaps the new measure is a scientic way of ironing out peoples' double standards.

There is a definite link between cannabis use and paranoia which can have dreadful outcomes

Tora,
The cannabis use did not make him kill, he had a screw loose already.
// his violent thoughts linked to an obsessional disorder.
Nottingham Crown Court was told Whelan, who admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, heard the voice of "Satan" directing him as he killed the victims at his aunt's home in Shirebrook, Derbyshire. //

I'm not sure your argument on drunk drivers really stacks up Gromit. A cannabis user driving a car is just as dangerous.
However, I do wonder on how best to sort this all out. I am warming to the idea of legalisation, not because I approve or use the stuff but because, as the Yanks found out, if you criminalize something masses use then it simply opens up a market for Mafia type criminals. In addition, if regulated, the State could ensure good quality stuff not skunk or the like and tax it to fund a mass crack (no pun intended) down on what then would be the illegal drugs. Make the penalties real hard like min 5 years for possession and 30 years for peddling it with no loop holes for right-on judges.

I know far more people you've used cannabis than those who haven't. I haven't noticed any of them launching unprovoked attacks on people!
Indeed, since cannabis is an excellent way to 'chill out', it makes most people far less likely to be aggressive.
The possession and supply of cannabis should be legalised immediately.

Chris the possession of small amounts of cannabis is already a 'warning' only offence. No prosecution unless the person has more than needed for personal use, so effectively it has been 'decriminalized'.(which is very different to Legalized!)
Legalizing cannabis would just mean it was sold commercially in shops as tobacco is now.
