The EpWarwick by election was not for a parliamentary seat, it was for a seat on the Town Council, and the winner had less than a thousand votes. I don't think anyone can seriously say a Council Ward is more significant than a Parliamentary seat, or that the result is a better indicator of the country's the threatened grip on democracy (whatever that means?).

What Gromit means is that in both the polls taken the Conservative candidates had more votes than the Libs and Labs combined.
