Chelsea Fc 'paid Me £50,000 Over Abuse'
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/uk -381798 82
The plot thickens. It now looks as if Chelsea bribed a former player, not to say anything about his abuse !
Bloody disgraceful.

When this type of discussion comes up, I am always astounded at the compete inability of some posters to stop looking at things from behind their keyboard, and take just a few seconds to think about it from the victim's perspective. This was a young man whose dream was to be a footballer, and he had already entered the dog-eat-dog environment where the favour of...

YMB - //Andy, I sort of agree with you but I do find it odd that with such high numbrs involved either someone would say something or one of the parents would have noticed a change in behavior (as is normal in these cases) //
If it was possible to see signs of abuse in children, then it would be nice to think that the majority of parents would step in and deal with it.
Does the fact that these people (and many millions more) were and are abused unnoticed tell you something about how hard it is to see what 'a change in behaviour' may mean?
What do you think happens? You ask your teenage son "Are you being sexually abused?" and he says "I'm glad you asked, I am actually, could you have a word?"
I really don't think it is quite as simple as that. "Oh, Jimmy's a bit quiet, I wonder if he is being abused?"
Do you see what I am getting at?
I am sure you do.

YMB....we don't at his stage know if any boy DID tell his parents, and that those parents DID go to the Club, and the abuse stopped
All we know at this point is that dozens of boys were abused and that they were too frightened to come forward.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if some people come forward in the future and said something like " well, we knew little Johnie was being abused, so we went to the Club and it stopped"
Perhaps the reasons for not saying anything at the time, were the same reasons why nothing was said in the other cases that are now appearing....shame and a wish for it all to be forgotten about asap.

Andy....13:25.....I am sure we all do.
If anything had happened to me at that age back in the 60's, I am not sure who I would have told, but I am fairly sure it wouldn't have been my parents.
In fact, I would probably not have told anyone, as it is unlikely that I would have been believed. I was a keen church-goer at that time, in my local RC parish. The young Curate at the time used to take us boys out 2-3 times a year, for healthy hikes over Exmoor and once we went to a Museum somewhere. Great fun !
But he suddenly disappeared in the summer of 1967....literately overnight.
I seem to recall some rumours at the time, although I didn't really understand them.

/// What would you do? ///
Even at looking at things from behind my keyboard, I know that as a 13 year old lad I would not let anyone get me naked in bed, also to try more adventurous things, such as preforming in threesomes with other boys.
Football or no football, my parents always taught me not to take sweets from strangers.

I have no problem with you basking in your manly approach to sexual abuse, and how lucky you are to be of a temperament not to accept it.
But all I ask is that you take a minute to think that not everyone is made like you, some of us are confused, and frightened and worried and upset, and don't know what to do, or who to tell, if anyone.
You are lucky - as am I - but I have never been in a situation where I was coerced or frightened or threatened or hurt into doing something I know to be wrong, but am powerless to stop.
So I don't know what I would have done, and if you are honest, and really honest about it - neither do you.

divebuddy - //If you want to make allegations like Johnson has, it's always best to do so about somebody who is dead. Wait until "your abuser" is dead or at least too gaga to refute anything you say seems to be the way to go. //
Well yes, anyone whose abuser is still alive has got the damned inconvenience of them defending themselves, which hardly seems fair does it?
never mind, the upshot is, if justice is done, they can know that their abuser is in a place where he can't hurt any more children.
It's such a fag isn't it - the inconvenience of some victims being better off because they've got a straight run ... oh well, life is just like that.

/// And while we're not having a trial by media, let's not have a trial by AB post, where this young man is being branded as foolish, cynical, stupid, money-grabbing and a possible liar by some on here. ///
You are always taking people to book for making statements that are not true or have not been said, so let's see the untruths here shall we?
YOUNG MAN? Mr Johnson, 57
BRANDED AS FOOLISH? Could be said, but see no accusation to the fact.
CYNICAL? "motivated purely by self-interest" in a way, but can see no mention of the word.
STUPID? In some's opinion, but never directly called that.
MONEY-GRABBING? Well he did accept £50,000 to keep quiet.
A POSSIBLE LIAR? No one has said anything like that.

Please do not talk for me, I know perfectly well what I would have done as a 13 year old.
We are not talking about 5 year olds here, this was a 13 year old boy, who was not abducted by a gang, thrown into the back of a van and took to some remote place to be abused.
This was a youth who could have prevented the advances of a single perverted adult, fought him off, ran for the door and reported him to the nearest adult.
You must have been very easily led as a teenager Andy.

Ditto, Eccles, shameful post.
Do you know, AOG, that many rape victims just freeze, they want to fight or run but they physically can't. Then they are left with shame and fear.
If after the first incident of abuse a youngster refused to go back to where it happened then that's when questions are likely to be asked and they fear the truth coming out. It's embarrassing, shameful, fearful of not being believed...so many other emotions.
