Why is this a "Scottish" problem all of a sudden? More open racism from some of our southern brethern on the Answerbank. If the mods were really bothered about racist comments on here they would delete these threads.

I love seeing how bad Scots are then going out to see the drunks and junkies around the towns around me. No drink or drug issues in the main English or Welsh cities? nah course not!

Another non story used by the latent racists on here to have another punt at the Scots, you are very sad people!
a recent trip to Liverpool confirms 9fingers observations
It isn't 'sudden'. See the section headed "Controversy in Scotland".

when did the scots become a "race"? the Scottish demographic is probably more diverse in terms of race and culture than any other country of comparable size.

how does that work?
Take your pick Naomi, Buckfast, Special Brew, White Lightning, Scrumpy; there are many "brews" have "Problems" not all related to Scotland, perhaps to balance your post you might find some other brew that creates an inherrant "Problem" is some other UK area? No?

Probably the same time the English did or the Welsh? If you stick your head in a vice and tightened it could you get anymore narrow minded?
Ninefingers, I'm not saying that other areas don't have problems. Simply that this is, apparently, not a 'sudden' problem in Scotland.

//perhaps to balance your post you might find some other brew that creates an inherrant "Problem" is some other UK area? No? //

the post was generated from a BBC News item. I didn't write it, the BBC did. if you believe the reporting is unbalanced, you need to report your concerns to OFCOM.
The problem here is not Buckfast Tonic Wine, but the inability or unwillingness of some people to behave in a socially acceptable way.

And that problem exists all over the UK.
^But in that area it seems it's attributed to that particular drink - that's why we're discussing that particular drink and that particular area.
//the post was generated from a BBC News item. I didn't write it, the BBC did. if you believe the reporting is unbalanced, you need to report your concerns to OFCOM. //

Correct but by taking a BBC South West Story and tagging it "Scottish Ned Society) within AB, YOU pointed at Scots as the problem, not the BBC.

As I've said already too many people on here seem to think these pages are purely for the bigotted to take a punt at Scots whenever they feel the need.
9fingers..I have brought racism ..for that is what it is..and derogatory terminology pertaining to we Scots here on AB ..to the attention of the ED many times..water off a ducks back.......here's tae us..wha's like us...damn few....for sure..:o)
I don't know why anyone is talking about racism. This is an article about a drink that seems to be blamed for causing problems in some areas of Scotland. What's racist about that?
It's an issue Murraymints, if the mods/Eds don't stamp on it then its a huge problem. Maybe add it to the rules, feel free to take a punt at the Scots because nobody will give a damn!
Minty....(10:47)....I am tending to agree with you here.

You Scots seem to be coming in for a lot of stick this morning,, what with one thread or another !
Naomi..not the op we have an issue with but the general acceptance that insults and language/terminology used in a Scottish context is ok..it is NOT
Why worry? Just reply in kind to the nimby, white settler, insular, tutting blowhards.

in my area of the midlands, "dinner" for a certain underclass of society comprises a 6-pack of white lightning, 40 benson & hedges and a huge bag of Doritos. in part this has come about because these peeps can no longer go to the pub, watch the footie and smoke their heads off. the local Spar does a brisk trade in these staple essentials; so far Spar haven't publically commented, nor have Midlands Today. when they do, I'll probably post about it.
Mush....I am not sure how typical that dinner is, but I suspect not very.

Please don't blame a poor diet like that on the smoking in Pubs law though.
murraymints at 11:03, can't say I've noticed that here - but in general I do think the Scots give as good as they get.
