Liberation Of Aleppo
Why are we not celebating the end to the war in Aleppo?
The civilian suffering is over after 4 years, and IS and their mates are defeated.

part of the problem gromit is that the bad guys have beaten the worse guys so not much to celebrate but on the whole the people won't be initially bothered who is ruining the show as long as they have peace. How long before another attempt at overthowing Bashar though?

Khandro.....(13:12)....but there is a huge difference between Assad using chemical weapons and terrorist using them. When Assad used them, it was state-sponsored use, and that is a war crime.
Your question at 13:38 deserves only one answer....read the history of the Assad family.

Mikey,
There is ample evidence tha the so called rebels have committed war crimes with Chemical Weapons. Did you not know, or are you conveniently ignoring the fact?

ichkeria;//The issue with Assad from the start has always been the methods he has used to conduct warfare, starting initially by massacring peaceful protesters and then systematically bombing civilians.//
(khandro)Can you give a reliable reference to that, please.
Are you serious, khandro?
Were you on the moon for the duration of most of this?

It is undeniably true that Assad responded to the protests against his regime violently. People were killed, but hardly massacred. And public buildings including the Ba'athist Party Headquarters where burned down, so 'peaceful is stretching it a bit.
This seems like a fair assessment...

// unarmed but destructive demonstrations in Dera’a prompted the assad regime to respond with violence. The incarceration of several youths in Dera’a triggered demonstrations on friday, March 18, 2011 that escalated until the following Monday, when security forces fired live ammunition against a mob that had succeeded in burning down the Ba’ath Party headquarters and other public buildings. The regime responded decisively, driving straight to the heart of the protest movement, the omari Mosque. the mechanized unit that seized this landmark has been frequently identi ed as Bashar al-assad’s brother Maher’s elite 4th armored Division, which opened re on unarmed demonstrators and killed as many as fteen protestors in the two-day assault. //

Gromit; That sounds like a fair assessment of how things started, but you have to see it also in the context of the "Arab Spring", which turned out nothing like the US neocons expected, who thought democracy would somehow break out throughout the whole middle east, but many other factions thought differently.
The first buzz word rolling off every western media was he was "barrel- bombing his own people", which changed to "using chemical weapons".
For the record; Assad was the only person who managed to protect the Syrian Christian community and since the insurgency up until June 9th 2014 "at least 1,131 Christians - identified by name and place of death - had been murdered by the radical Muslims that comprise the Islamic State, also known as ISIS".
The amount slaughtered, Beheaded and crucified since then is not yet known.

Khandro,
I was going to make the same point to Ick about the Syrian Christians had Islamists taken power in Syria.
The Arab Spring was a CIA concept. Troops on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the inevitable body bags returning were not good for public moral and votes. So the CIA went back to basics and threw tons of money at affecting regime change in the middle east. Compared to the $Trillions wasted in Afghanistan and Iran, the $billions spent on the Arab Spring was actually a saving, and no embarrassing dead bodies returning home.
Of course encouraging the people to remove their dictators had previously been seen to have its drawbacks. In Egypt, Mubareck was deposed, the the will of the people was to elect a west hostile Islamic Government. More CIA money was need for engineer a Military Coup to change that mistake.
