There is a huge amount of emotion floating around on this thread.
A large number of people feel that the refusal of bail is unfair, and that the judges are 'out of touch'.
I would suggest that the concept of what is fair, and what is public opinion are not involved here - because this is a legal process, which must be followed in order for the rule of law to be effective.
The rule in this instance is clear - bail shall only be offered in what the court considers to be exceptional circumstances, and on this occasion, that criterion is not met, therefore bail is refused.
Is it a shame that MS Blackman will spend Christmas in prison? Yes it is - but it is the correct decision under legal process. Is it wrong that he stays in prison? No it is not.
Given what we know of the circumstances, it is highly likely that his conviction is going to be quashed, or commuted, but that will be decided when his case reaches Appeal, and until then he remains convicted, and therefore must remain in prison.
