Yesterday, we were told that the new fees in next year will probably be only £3:00, against the nearly £7:00 it cost today. Now it could even be free at night !

This is the best news since the Bridge was stolen away from us years ago.

'The statement (We rightly don't have tolls on motorways nor other roads ) is still true apart, it seems, for one, or maybe a few, aberrations'

Chortle.

It's also true that the world is round, apart from a few flat bits.

Our Scottish friends seem to have sorted out a very similar problem !

Zacs...calm down dear !

OG is 99.9% correct, so cut him some slack.
Well, if the chuckle brothers ever retire, there are 2 replacements right here.
So, one of the Chuckle brothers are denying that the world is round because Netherlands exist ?
Question Author
Thanks Zacs......you say the nicest things !
OG, using an inacccurate statement to back up your beliefs that all roads should be government funded, and then trying to deny your statement still holds water just makes you look daft.
Question Author
Zacs....give over for Gods sake !

The vast majority of the Motorway networks isn't subject to Tolls !
Mikey, Here's a list of other roads which you have to pay to use:
https://www.gov.uk/uk-toll-roads
//You don't have to use the M6 Toll road//

you don't have to use the severn bridge either. it's not the only way in or out of wales.
On the contrary; one thing that makes folk look daft is quibbling over something that serves to prove the point it was making, simply because it isn't universally correct; and implying that the world isn't round in order to back up the quibble. But I'm sure you know that and are being argumentative for your own amusement. Your choice, your rep.
mikey, you're paying for the convenience, do you not normally pay for conveniences in Wales?
OG, if you want to argue a point on infactual statements I feel obliged to point out your failings. I'm not amused by it, I'm saddened, especially at your futile attempts to justify it further.
“I have already said that the M6 Toll road is entirely avoidable.”

The Severn Bridge is just as avoidable, Mikey. Using the alternative (the “old” M6) may not involve travelling so many miles in diversion as travelling to Wales via Gloucester (about an extra 50 miles, I think) but at many times of the day the saving in time using the Toll road is just as great as using the Severn Bridge.

“Our Scottish friends seem to have sorted out a very similar problem ! “

Our Scottish friends manage to obtain free of charge all sorts of things that their English cousins have to fork out for. If you want to know how this can be achieved Google the “Barnett Formula”.

The Second Severn Crossing was built by a business consortium under a Public-private partnership (funded and operated through a partnership of government and one or more private sector companies). A company called Severn River Crossing Plc, led by John Laing plc and GTM-Entrepose [a French constructor], was formed to build the new crossing. The company also took over the responsibility of managing and maintaining the old Severn Bridge crossing, as well as managing and maintaining the new crossing. The cost of constructing the new crossing was expected to be paid for by tolls collected from motorists using the two crossings.

The company has until 2022 to recoup its "fixed sum of money" through tolls...

Haha Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

The Dartford Bridge was paid for years ago, but the tolls not only continue but have increased hugely.
Aye, and once you've Googled 'Barnett Formula' scroll down to 'paying our dues'.
For Funks Sake, are we not in this together? The craven Scotch allow chinless bawbags to buy our castles with the loose change from the sale of their one bed slums in that London.
