His 'I'm just like you folks, I don't know much about this politics stuff ...' shtick may have got him elected, but it's not going to work when he is in office.
Pretending that everything has a simple solution because he thinks that way sounds fantastic, but it has no place in world, or indeed domestic politics.
Mr Trump knows a bit about fame, but he knows nothing about politics - but both are barbed-wire treadmills, you need to know exactly how to run on both of them or they will tear you to pieces.

This is the issue - Trump loves these scatter-gun methods of communicating, but he doesn't seem to have woken up to the fact that when he was CEO of his business empire, what he said was the way it was.
Now, people are going to pick up on not only every word he says, but the way he says them, and they are going to come back with tall questions, and demand answers, something Mr Trump has never experienced before.
His 'Lemme tell ya ....' prefaces to long rambling diatribes with no punctuation - the hallmark of a man not used to being questioned or contradicted - are absolutely not going to cut it on the world stage, or with Congress, and he'd better start learning to listen, and fast.

Ninefingers - I cut and paste in order for ease of reference - people can easily see to which post I am responding - this is helpful if the post goes ovedr onto another page.
It also avoids the 'That was to so-and-so' confusion because you can't rely on a post following immediately from the one to which you re replying.
If you don't wish to use the method, that's fine, but if you are confusing pasting a post with not having an original opinion, then clearly you are mistaken.

divebuddy - the rights and wrongs of Mr Trump's view are less the issue, than the fact that he thinks that international diplomacy works by shooting of an unfounded opinion to people who matter.
If you are sitting in your penthouse in Trump Tower, then you are just a citizen, and your opinion is probably going to be ignored.
If you are President-Elect of the USA, then your opinion is not only not going to be ignored, it had better be seriously well thought out, with appropriate information and background statistics, because otherwise, the first Congressman or journalist you come across is going to eat you for breakfast - very publicly.

Old_Gezzer - //Maybe he's considering re-orgs rather than abandonment ? //
Maybe - which rather speaks to my last post - he should know damn well exactly what he is doing, before he opens his mouth and lets his consciousness leak out of it n dribbling rambles.
That was fine on campaign trail - but he's not on the campaign trail now, this is where it all gets serious.

Until trump puts his very wealthy Butt in the chair in the oval office he'll say what he like, once he gets there, expect the rhetoric to differ.
He's probably right about NATO, it's obsolete in its current form and needed reorganisation for a long time. It's top heavy and very biased in the implementation of the various clauses of the agreement, for some countries it works for others it doesn't. Where he says it's important to him I suggest is that he would see the "Army of Europe" as a bad thing.
