I'm hovering over on whom to put my actual money. Was considering Le Pen (not worth betting on Fillon, who is by far odds on) and having a hedging fiver on Valls. All change. It all now hedges on the result of the 1st Round (it always has done, really). My feeling is that Macron is the focus of the sort of voters who support Corbyn, but the important thing is that it adds to the complications.

'Yes' to OP - latest politician to come to centre stage - don't think he can win at the moment. An interesting few weeks to come. I'll have some chats with French friends. French politics are a strange mix. :)

Valls is a no-hoper. Nice and able man, but tainted by Hollande.
The centre-left needs to unite behind one person. If Valls could be persuaded not to stand then who knows. It was interesting that that poll showed that while Le Pen would be trounced by either Macron or Fillon in a run-off, Macron would also shade Fillon.
Fillon's problem are his plans for reform of working conditions, which would struggle against a popular candidate of the centre (and would not necessarily thrive, either, against a Le Pen beding over backwards to appeal to workers).

Well, who saw Benoit Hamon arriving at the top? I didn't. All very interesting.
Now wondering if Le Pen might really do it. (Win, I mean.)
